12j to 200 tdi wireing ?

When changing from 12j to 200 tdi does the wiring need to be updated to account for the additional capacity of the 200tdi alternator? If so does this mean the entire loom or just whatís in the engine bay?

No. The alternator wiring is part of the engine loom, which you should get with the engine.

Does this mean all the wires in the dash, etc too or can all that stay as is?

Unrelated to your wiring question but when you get your engine I'd suggest taking a long hard look at the rear main seal T seals and engine block gasket. If you see any weeping but time to replace them as before you put the motor in

you will be able to use the existing wiring for the dash instruments & warning lights, the engine wiring loom is different and should come with the engine but is easy to replicate, you may find it is a good idea to replace the alternator cable to a bigger cable anyway as you may find the existing wiring insulation has gone brittle and is cracked the same goes for the glow plug wires.

The wiring in the dash really has nothing to do with the engine or the charging system. the stock 200TDI uses a different glow plug control, but that is a standalone wiring harness.

A lot of how well a conversion is performed depends on the details of all the parts that you get.

Thanks for the responses. This totally answers my questions. Much appreciated.

Engine coming from Rover Rescource and is a fresh rebuild with all new seals, etc.

What I'm getting at is that beyond the wiring and the engine, there is a lot of stuff that you should be getting if you want a pain free conversion. A lot depends on whether you are getting a Defender or Discovery engine.

you can use the 12j engine wiring harness on the 200. The stock defender 200 tdi alt is a piece of crap just like the 12j one-45 amps. No wiring upgrade needed.
