110 speaker location

About to install a stereo in the 110. It has the original door cards, so fitment of the speakers there is next to impossible, consequently I'm looking at the dash assuming that is my only real option. I have speakers that are @ 1.5" deep and 1" spacer rings, though it REALLY looks like it's going to foul with the wiper motor if I put it them in the outside section of the dash. Any thoughts on more elegant solutions than bumping it out another half inch with another spacer?

Mine are instaled with 1.5 spacers that the previous owner made. I've toyed with the idea of installing speakers in the headliner but never got around to actually working it out...

We made a panel for Neils truck that replaced the panel above the rear door. That panel is spaced out from the top by about and inch and the speakers are aimed forward towards the back of your head. We made the panel from some Azek board (home builders version of Starboard) I had lying around. That way you don't end up cutting holes in your truck. Seems better than aiming speakers @ the floor.

I used 1.5 in spacers on the lower dash with 6.5 component speakers and I put the tweeters in the head liners and the result is quite impressive. See build thread for pics.

roll up windows right?
i had a stereo shop make some spacers which follow the contors of the door and allow the windows to fully roll down you have to cut omw o fthe metal supports of course but pretty simple for a decient shop - paid $160 for the install all up. 5 1/2 JL speakers - looks and sounds great.

<speaker cost was not included in the $160)
Defenders don't wear out they just need more parts.
