110 front brakes...pandora's box

Well I had to find something...what started out as was I thought was a cracked, old brakeline, and simple brake job, has turned into complete caliper rebuild-replace job. Good news is the axles, and all those bits are fine. The bearings were slightly worn on both sides...

Here 's the low down:
Passenger caliper leaking, inside pad MISSING
Rotor...
Driver side caliper almost completely siezed

I expected to have to replace the brakes, and was getting all the bits to do the rear disk conversion and do all the brakes at one time, but to put the front caliper together WITHOUT a inside pad is bs. I know this because you couldn't compress pistons enough to get new pads on both sides, the cotter pins are still in, and it's obvious by the corrosion on the pistons. I can't believe we missed this on inspection, but the brakes were working, with no squeaks or squeals and there was plenty of brake pedal.

You can get some new calipers for real cheap. Looks like you may have the solid disc on the front so make sure you specify that. Might be the time to upgrade into a vented disc set up. I just rebuilt the entire front end and can give you some vendors names if interested.

Has anyone rebuilt their calipers? I've read a but of stuff, but still am up in the air.

To split the caliper or not to split?

I started to rebuild mine and learned a couple of things in short order. First, they were a pain in the a_ _ to pull apart completely for the cleaning and two, Auto Zone sells them already rebuilt so cheap it wasn't worth the effort to rebuild. Yours look the same as the ones on my 90 and at about 30 bucks per side, after giving them the core, it's hard to beat.

I recently struggled with the rebuild vs buy decision. In the end, it made more sense to buy and I upgraded the 110's rotors/calipers to vented at the same time. A nice bolt on upgrade.

I have 90% of what I needed so the easy fix was new calipers...Brad, I checked with autozone and the best they could do on price was $75, after core charge. I had an order in for stuff from the UK and picked up a set for less than $100.00 us...
I looked rebuilding them, but really would get new ones...
