Stage One Grill: the Saga Continues

Okay - I am convinced Stage One grills can only be had with the rest of the truck attached. That's a little too expensive for me right now.

Is there anyone in the NoVa area that I can talk with about maybe fabricating one (or something close)?

Thanks.

I would be in for one or two depending on price/quality (ie real galvy).

Sounds good. Hopefully we'll get some leads. I saw that someone on the Stage One board was fabricating them for a while in the UK, but I think he gave up.

I can live with 'cosmetically close,' as long as it doesn't get my Land Rover a place of honor in the Land Rovers that Suck thread.

How is the grill designed? Kind of hard to tell from pictures online but it kind of looks like a wire screen a la shopping cart style.

If you want I could look into designing and CNC milling out of aluminum a 'cosmetically close' grill similar to the heritage grill but with the dimensions of the grill from a Stage 1 and have it powder coated.

From what I can tell it is fabricated like a series grill. Interwoven flatstock with a ring of round stock, galvanized.

I have one. It is hanging on my shop wall as my idea of rover art. You all are welcome to borrow it to have it copied but I want it back.

Thanks so much for the offer, Uncle Douglas, and I would like to take you up on it. We do have several fabricators/machine shops in my area, and even as a baseline, I wouldn't mind taking it by there to see if they can replicate it and for how much.

Highest priority, though, is to give the "business" to someone on the forum!

You can get the metal screen in correct dimensions, but you have to buy a huge roll ($$) and then you have to weld all of the little wires to the frame! I guess a spot welder would make it relatively painless..?

This probably doesn't help.

Well, thanks for all of the help. For Ren Ching and Scrubs, I am very, very interested, possibly in both!

Please contact me via email at jpandlp@cox.net

For Dave, it would be good to see you if we hook up. It's been years. I drove by the happy hour place last night - I think I was in the right place. Not a single Rover in the parking lot, so I departed with homework with the kids waiting for me. I'll check in on the thread on the other board.

Here's another good picture of a Stage One grill panel and grill.

Thanks for the ebay lead, too. Gonna keep my eye on that one.

Stage One Grill

It looks like you are well on your way to sorting this out - but I took pictures of my grill today before I read this.

So here are my pictures.

... and Bricktop - just let me know anytime you need help.

Thanks for all of the help so far. For David, thanks for the pictures. I think you're right around the corner from me, and we still need to hook up. I'd like to see your Stage One and maybe get a ride.

One of the grills might work out, hopefully. I was thinking in the future about putting a Land Rover diesel in this truck, but now I think I am going to put a V8 back in and take it close to its original configuration.

Cheers,
Jon
