Series 3 pressure plates not the same

I just put a Borg and Beck and an AP clutch pressure plate flat on the bench side by side. The Borg and Beck plate sits higher plus on the fingers of the Borg and Beck plate there is a boss. This makes the whole assembly sit considerably higher which may explain why the throwout assembly on my rebuild was not touching the pressure plate. Has anyone else come across this ?. Just about to pull out the gearbox again and fit the B&B plate

Clutch PP type is determined largely by the type of bellhousing fitted. IIa bellhousing uses the one with boss on the fingers and the S3 bellhousing uses the one with regular plain fingers. 9" clutches were only suitable for Sii and IIa.

There are other things that can cause issues such as worn slave cylinder pushrods, and worn or damaged throwout assembly parts

This is a late 2A (1970) fitted with a S3 gearbox, the Borg and Beck pressure plate with the boss on the fingers is a 9.5" plate from a 2A. When measured up it looks like that will allow the relsease assembly to press the plate in. With the S3 plate the release assembly touches the tip of the fingers only. Most people say do not extend the push rod as if it is too long the end will pop out of the slave cylinder. Master and slave cyls are new.

It is a complete S3 box including the bell housing bolted to a 2A motor.

It the looks like the flywheel, friction and pressure plates are correct. Checking the nylon bush on the throwout assembly fork, just ordered one from DAP at $.40. Part no is 571161. If this is worn it will limit the travel of the throwout assy. Just have to take out the gearbox again.
