Older Series Paint Codes

I went to the NAPA place where I usually get paint mixed and tried to get some paint for my Series today. I gave him the Dupont Centari number that I have for Sand (38502A) but he was unable to find it in his computer. He recommended that I try to work through Dupont customer support or he can try to match it. $25 match charge and he's a week and a half behind.

Any other ideas for getting this paint mixed? It's a color that was only used on Series II trucks so I guess I'm not that surprised to have trouble.

I tried all over the place to get LR sand and failed. There are some very similiar colors used on domestic pickups in the 70's that you might have better luck with. See if the paint store has old paint chip books stashed away.

Oh I have the code. The problem is that it's not in anyone's computer and no one has the books anymore.

Try a UK Vendor. Dunsfold should have some or know where to get it.

House of Color or Kolor (can't remember) on Santa Fe has the books and can do most old Dupont colors IIRC. I used them to get the green for my Toylander project, same day on the paint. Super helpful folks.

They couldn't find the color I wanted based on the code but did have a book with series era colors to look at and I think sand was in there since it was one I was considering.

Went to Painter's Supply (House of Kolor) and they found a PPG crossmatch of 21844 in a very old book. They called PPG and they have no record of it. So now I have two codes (Dupont Centari 38502 and Ditzler 21844) but no one has a mixing formula for either one.

I'm going to try and match to part of the seat box that has had the least sun bleaching.

The paint codes for modern paint are listed in the Rovers North Catalog. The coe for Bronze Green was spot on and my guy mixed it from modern paint with no issue. Came out fine.

I don't have a hard copy catalog, but many other colors were used into the 70s and are easier to find. Does it show a code for Sand?
