Military 109 VIN

Is there a vin anywhere on a military 109 chassis ? I dont see most of the trucks we handle but I have been asked several times by the inspecting officers where the VIN is. It was recently posted that all chassis have a number, even ckd's. Anyone have the pearl of wisdom as to where on a x mod 109 ?
Is it anywhere other than on the placard on the seat box on these military trucks ?

I imported a 1980 series 3 109 from Canada and it had a vin on the frame.

Doug some have them some don't. Over the years on the 10+ Series IIA,101, 109 and Lightweight ex mod's I had I think less them 20% had them. They all had the data plate and that was the big thing.

Mine had a VIN stamped into the frame horn, but the job was so absolutely horrible that Customs would have surely suspected fraud!! It is not stamped very deep.

Robert Davis said that he thought the series 3 trucks had it on the frame but not the earlier ones. What year was yours JL ?
Would that jive with what you have seen Derek ?

I hate that there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer here, hoping someone can shed more light.

Will seemed to be stating definitively recently that they all had them but it wasn't clear (to me) if he was stating that corporate intended all to have them or if they actually all physically had them. Not sure it was ever cleared up.

Yep, but that has not been my experience with military trucks. Reaching for further education based on others knowledge, as you can see above its a mixed bag. . Working with a guy on an x mod 109 2a and the seller says the only vin is on the placard.

Obviously rust could easily defile a 45 year old hand stamped number, on the frame, then there is waxoyl, paint etc. Just because its not visible doesn't mean it wasn't hammered on.,but that's the crux of the question. Were the numbers always on the front right dumb iron on series trucks like on defenders ?

Sounds close but not entirely true Doug. My IIA Ambulance, IIA Shorland MKIII both had chassis numbers. However these very well could have been done by Marshals and Shorts. Also with all the old coats of wax oil it's damn near impossible to find anything even if they where there to begin with. ------ Follow up post added May 24th, 2016 11:54 PM ------ I had a beautiful original IIA 88 ex RAF no chassis number....and amazing chassis never waxoiled and no chassis number just data plate.

Mine is a 1980.

I think they are all stamped but, Being BL Cars, the stamping guy probably was off work on a bender for a month at a time and was just never replaced, explaining why some were not.

Mine looks like it was done by someone who was totally hammered.
