LT 95 gearbox..do I have to remove gearbox from truck to replace reverse idler shaft?

The set screw that holds the reverse Idler shaft in place has sheared off causing the shaft to slide out of its hole. Is there a way to remove the shaft without dropping the gear box? This is on my stage 1 1883

Looking at the workshop manual here, it looks like not; you can access it from removing the side panel.

PM me your email and I'll fling the manual over. It's 6mb mind.
