Loss of Power with 1994 Land Rover Defender 300tdi

Hello ! I have a problem with my Defender which I canít seem to solve.
I have loss of power when going up hills and it is also bad when towing, I have to keep changing down and the problem seems to be getting worse.

I have had it serviced, changed the fuel pump and the uplift pump and the local garage canít find any faults with the turbo.
I am currently in Sweden and in general specialist landy garages do not exist so hoping to get some good advice from the enormous Defender expertise back home in the UK. When stationery the engine revs well and appears to show no problems.

On top of this if I try to give it some welly in 5th when it starts to die then the drive seems to disengage and the engine revs up so I de-throttle and change down to 4th and it picks up again. This could be a different problem to the above but must be related.

The vehicle has 155 k on the clock and I am the second owner, last year the timing belt was changed.
Unfortunately my mechanical knowledge is limited and have to rely on those that know.

if anyone on the forum could give me some possibles as to what the problem may be then I shall be extremely grateful. Thanks

First need to know overall condition of the engine. You need to do a compression test to be sure that there is no "blow-by" of the rings. Also make sure the valves are properly adjusted.
After that you can begin to explore external issues such as fuel delivery, boost, etc.

Your first problem sounds like fuel starvation or an air leak in the fuel delivery. Change your fuel filter, if that doesn't fix it start looking for possible air leaks.

Your second problem sounds like a slipping/burnt clutch.
