galvanizing finish

If I get steel hot dipped that has been blasted and is rough will it have a different finish than steel that is 'normal' and smooth?
I cleaned some of my stuff myself but had some blasted, now I'm a bit concerned that they will end up with different finishes after galvanizing. Not really a big deal, but if it will be very different I'd rather just spend a little and have the rest blasted.

yeah, clean smooth metal comes out much nicer. I had a some roughly blasted stuff galvanized and I was really glad it wasnt going to show. If it had been for cappings or something exposed I would have been disappointed. I've heard you can ask for a different spec (i.e. architectural) but some certain plants might only offer a particular spec and might not be prepared to process parts for a particular aesthetic finish.

I was wondering why I see differences in the finish of galvenized pieces

What's the prep required for pieces that are already galvenized like body cappings? Should you media blast of them first or something else?

Jim- what kind of finish difference was it? If two pieces were next to each other would the difference be obvious?

If so... for the stuff I already have rough blasted what's my best solution? Should I sand it with a fine grit... Or ???

The difference is super obvious. Galv over rough looks like a cast part. Over clear, rolled steel it looks like beautiful, smooth, flaky, rover chrome.

I've never prepped a rough part for nice galv, but I bet sanding it as smooth as possible is the answer.
