F-me, oil in my coolant

So, I go outside to work on the shifter problem, but I want to check to see what the freeze point of the coolant is. I know the two are not related, but thats how my brain works.

It appears that only water is in the radiator, or at least not enough coolant. So I drain some, and add straight coolant to raise the freezing point.

After running the truck for a while to get the coolant all circulated, I am getting a frothy brown mess coming out of the radiator.

I can only imagine that it is oil. Any ideas about where it is coming from? I checked the crankcase, and the oil there is clear and bright. I can't say that I checked the coolant before today, so I might flush the system with cleaner, then refill it and see if the "oil" comes back.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I'd flush it, drain completely and refill with fresh coolant. If you don't have milkshake looking film inside valve cover and oil on dipstick is clear but you continue to get brown froth from radiator cap borrow a tester to determine if you have exhaust gasses in your coolant. Bummer how mant problems you have had with this truck.

So, flush is done. I drove it around for 30-45 min around town. Nice and clean water. As I was getting ready to add the coolant, I picked up a bottle of Prestone Sealant and Rust Inhibiter. I figured it could not hurt. I open it up, go figure, it looks exactly like the crap I have been flushing out.

Needless to say, I did not add the sealant goop. Just RO water and coolant. I think that this might have been my biggest freak-out over nothing yet.
