Converting a 2003 Discovery to a 300tdi

I'm considering converting my 2003 Land Rover Discovery to a 300tdi engine. Is there a good place to purchase the engine and transmission? Has anyone had any experience with Land Rover imports (Duncan Goodchild)?

Just realize that there is a lot involved with a D2 in changing the engine and making the rest of the car still work. Using the correct (TD5) engine from a donor Disco with all the correct other parts may be easier.

I've not dealt with Duncan, but a search on this site is probably a good place to start.

It can be done, but I highly doubt most people would be able to do it and still have everything work correctly. As John said, a TD5 swap would be a better choice, but still a huge task to install. A TD5 feels way more powerful than a 300 tdi in my opinion. Make sure you do all of your research before you start ordering parts.

plus even with a Td5 the disco is a slug, way too small engine for that truck

Maybe stock, but they can be safely tuned up to be faster than the stock V8s.

X2 with ecu upgrades readily available. The power band is an old argument. I still like the diesels across the board

Not to mention OBDII emissions testing and the state-to-state issues that would arise when it comes time for you to sell. how will it be titled (diesel, gas?), etc.. Check out Roving Beetle's thread on his diesel in a D2 swap.

A quick search will answer you questions about the seller…

Do you have emissions in Chicago? If so, this will not pass as in theory you can't put in a engine older than the vehicle and is not OBD2 compliant . Anything can be done, but do a more research on the topic and feasibility of that engine, and along those lines, the amount of work needed to fit any diesel into that truck...
