Chev 4 cyl ecotec engine

I'm new here so if the subject has come up before and been discussed apologies all around. The always reliable forum search didn't get any hits so I figure its worth an Ask.

Has anyone put thought into the chevy 4 cyl 'ecotec' engines for a series rover? The generation 2 (2007-2012) engines seem like they give good horsepower & torque, though at a bit higher RPMs (Max HP over 5000RPM but max torque at only 2000 RPM. A brief internet search (which could never lead a guy astray Right?) shows them as a reliable fuel efficient engines.

Thoughts?

There are so many already established and proven alternatives, that it wouldn't be worth the time or trouble. There was brief time when a few people tried the old 2.5 Iron Duke Chevy engine. Those boat anchors get tossed in favor of Tdi engines.

The Chevy engine is in my wife's Equinox. That engine has electrically controlled variable cylinder valve timing along with buckets of other wizardry. I would never wish that sort of evil into a series bonnet.

... And ours is not the fuel efficient. 19mpg
