Capstan Winch?

Hi, I am new to the forum, but have owned my 1970 IIa 88 for about 30 years. I recently got the bug to put a capstan winch on it, and was wondering if anyone had one for sale or trade? Thanks!

They seem relatively hard to come by and require a PTO IIRC; they are kinda cool, I was on the lookout for a powered deck winch for awhile because I thought it would make a pretty awesome. Finally decided an electric winch was infinitely more practical and even easier to re-sell if I ever parted with my 90

The Superwinch capstan that was designed for Defenders runs from the front of the crank directly.

They stick out a long way on a Defender!

Pangolin 4x4 as some and occasionally one will come up on the Guns and Rovers Site.

The Capstan winch is nice for working, pulling logs, hoisting, etc.........it is not great for recovery.

If you want a winch for getting yourself "un-stuck" look into an 8274 or a Koenig if you want originality.

I have a Capstan that I took off my Series 3 last year. The winch is in good shape, but the driveshaft was broken and re-welded (prior to my buying it). I have all the 'connecting bits,' but would recommend a new drive shaft if I was re-installing it. There's a guy in Germany that sells them on eBay.

Series Landrover Aeroparts Front Recovery Capstan Winch Drive Shaft Assembly | eBay

PM me if you are interested and I can send pictures of the 'bits' and discussing pricing...
