Anyone know what this deposit is

This is an inside shot of the block of my 2.25 litre motor with the pan off.
The white substance is mainly below the crank at the front of the motor (inside the block).
It comes off with a finger and is black and oily underneath and white and cracked on top.
Feels gritty and oily when rubbed between my fingers.
This is a Turner re-build with 25 - 30,000 miles on it.
It runs fine I just wanted to sand blast the pan and this is what I saw when I removed it.

It's oil and water emulsified gunk. The water is normal more or less as condensation. Doesn't appear to be much there, so likely not indicating a problem other than maybe your breather system may need to be unclogged. If you had a cracked block there would be gobs of that stuff.

Bill is probably right. However, the "gritty" part is what would bother me.

Pull the oil filter and valve cover to see if you find any more of that stuff there.

Valve cover was spotless.
I'll check the oil filter housing next.
Thanks for the help.

Most likely concentration of Calcium from evaporation of moisture in the crankcase.

It looks like calcium and that would account for the grittiness.
