200TDi swap; cooling options

I'll be installing a 200tdi into my 88" soon and I'm working through my options. I've read that the series radiator is sufficient to cool the tdi with the turbo blanked off. This makes me think it will also work with the turbo as long as the intercooler and oil cooler are used. My question to you guys is, what do you think about using an aftermarket oil cooler kit? This seems like my only option if I want to keep the series rad and run the turbo. Thoughts?

Aluminum... any size you want.

Oil cooler is NEVER a bad idea.

Not using the turbo on the 200Tdi is just an "interesting" choice. Others have commented on other boards etc... it's your truck, but that's one I'd think long and hard about.

You'll be pretty close to 2.5 power after doing a full "conversion"

Pretty sure the turbo engine without the turbo is more of a dog than the 2.5 natural if thats possible.

Please read Bills thread here http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...eferrerid=3511

Before making any decisions you will kick yourself for later.

I think an aftermarket oil cooler would work fine. However, I would use a 200tdi radiator with the integrated oil cooler in order to free up some room for the intercooler.

The downside is that you would have to fabricate the mount and an expansion tank, but in the end I think you'll end up with a tidier install.

This is probably the nicest "200tdi radiator in an Series" that I've seen.

ECR did a 300 install in a SIII years ago.
I've seen it up close and personally as the truck is here in VA now.
Pretty neat.

I'm planning on running the turbo. I also have a Disco radiator to fall back to if my series rad doesn't work out. As of now I'm thinking I might try the series radiator with a military oil cooler off a 2.5 diesel.

From what I've read more Disco 200tdi, with the underslung turbo, are used in conversions simply because they are more plentiful than the Defender type. Getting the underslung turbo to fit between the frame rails, especially on a 109, is why most folks opt to blank it off and run without.

My tdi has the Defender high turbo setup.

I could have an aluminum rad for you to fit the series but with oil cooler integrated.
