I'm curious what the current value of a reged 1998 d90 TD5. All paperwork is legit and match. Just a ballpark in good condition.

Maybe but if it's paperwork jives and it's registered who cares if it slipped threw the cracks. It's not like they are gonna take it from you and crush it.

Oh it's a highlander edition whatever that means

Do you really need all of us telling you what it's worth? It's worth 1,000 different values here. Just go buy it if you want it, and post pics and the VIN here when you get it since all of its paperwork jives and there are absolutely no questions on it.

It's not here legally. 25 years old is the minimum requirement.
Bet you it's registered with some other year.
Assuming a vin swap occurred then it's doubly illegal.
CBP monitor this site, and seize vehicles even after they are allowed in. Just look at all those Jap Spec Nissans they took and crushed.

Frank you do realize you are posting potential illegal activity on a public forum known to be frequented by CBP and other federal policing agencies.

Not quite sure how it's potentially illegal? I'm just asking a question. I'm just curious what it would sell for. If the VIN matches the title and the VIN comes up with the correct truck... Then somehow it made it threw the system. I'm not on the up and up on all the legalities of the system so please pardon my ignorance

Ok Frank, is this your vehicle or one you're looking at?

Doesnt matter what VIN matches what or where; if it is a 1998 Td5 Defender it cannot be in the US legally.

Then by all means you would be wise get "on the up and up" on what is legal and what is illegal so you can make an informed purchase. Not trying to be a buzzkill but having seen with my own eyes a dozen or so seized vehicles (including a friend's) I can tell you the Feds are not fooling around on this.

First year for the td5 was 1999. New model year trucks are manufactured starting in August ea year.

That said the early td5's were frought with problems to include cylinder head issues as well as oil ingress in the wiring harness shorting the ecu out. Stuart Foley @ Foley SV in Essex told me that the early Td5's are considered throw away engines due to failure rates and high parts costs.
I wouldn't want one without a sheaf of paperwork showing everything had been updated to the 2002+ specs. All of that is on the web for anyone interested in researching.

Impossible to give a value without some idea of condition

Does anybody here know of somebody getting there truck seized if they are the 2nd or 3rd owner? Not the one who imported it. Bought a truck that is registered and titled.

Just curious.

That is a little different. I hope he gets his truck back and it all works out in the end.

Your question however was:

"Does anybody here know of somebody getting there truck seized if they are the 2nd or 3rd owner? Not the one who imported it. Bought a truck that is registered and titled."

Of which, he was the 2nd owner. He was not the one that imported it (he bought it from a dealer). And his truck was registered and titled for I believe 2-3 years. So...fits what you asked, and not all "that" different .
