1984 110 Water Pump Issue

Re: 1984 110 3.5 V8 Dual Carb

I was out for a drive this weekend when all of sudden the battery light came on, temp gauge spiked. I quickly pulled over and shut the engine off. Opened the hood and saw that the fan/alternator blade had popped off. Thought it was an easy fix.

But then realized that the fan blade was hitting/rubbing the shroud and that the water pump pulley had moved forward about 3/8" inch. The pulley no longer lines up with the alternator/engine pulleys.

I had it towed home. Took a closer look, and everything feels tight, nothing is loose, no missing bolts or wobbling.

Any one else have this issue, or any ideas on how this could have happened?

Thanks, Sean

By the description it would seem that a new water pump is in your future. Thankfully the fan didn't shear off and fly into your radiator and shred it like cole slaw.

Without taking everything apart... It looks like the impeller sheared off the shaft and it moved forward.

Like Bill said... Get a new water pump.
