1975 Series III 2.25 Diesel won't start when hot

Engine runs perfect; however, if I decide to drive and turn off the truck after any short drives it won't start again. When I turn the key to try to start the truck again it appears as if the battery was drained, the engine tries to turn once or twice, but there is no juice. After the engine cools down it will start right away. The battery is still fully charged. Any ideas???? Thanks

Thoroughly inspect your battery cables, take a look at the connections at the starter itself. Sometimes wires and cables look great at the terminal ends but inside the sheathing it can be a real mess. Inspect all the wires in your starter circuit and block grounds. Sounds like a voltage drop somewhere.

Thanks for the tips. Someone else also mentioned the starter going south? Could that be the case?

It could be when the starter cools down vs when the engine cools down. Voltmeter to be 100% certain on the batt. Then double check your ground. Then I'd opt for pulling the starter and go to your local rebuilder.

Check all ground wiring. Battery to chassis is paramount. Hi friction washers help me with similar problem.

Give the starter a few love taps with a hammer when it does it; if it fires up right after then you have your answer

Or after you drive it hot, park it on a hill, then try to start it normally, if it won't start then just bump start it, if it won't start then you know its not the starter.

Well, the starter has finally gone south...... Now the search begins for a new or use starter. Do you have one? Let me know.

Thanks to everyone for their tips

You might want to remove your starter and take it to someone who rebuild starters. I know where they are in NYC. It might be the bushings in your starter. Sometimes water gets trapped in the starter and freezes. If you hear several clicking noise, then that may be your problem.
