I personally wouldn't want to be the one spending $75k on that, but to each their own.

I'm obviously new and learning about these vehicles. What makes this example "rare?" Does the custom interior make the price worth it? I understand from another board member that the dash isn't correct for this year. Also looking for opinion on the 300tdi motor.

------ Follow up post added August 2nd, 2016 10:35 PM ------

Certainly not looking to spend 75K.

it looks like it's the only defender in a Hummer dealership (that prides themselves on selling "bling")

It may have if it's Saudi spec, and is also the dash that the 1993 defender NAS 110 used

Thank you for the bit of information. Just trying to figure out what are the things to look for. I'm more concerned with finding the right one with a good frame, correct/desirable engine. Not interested in the bling.

I counted 99 photos and not one of any of the problem areas on the truck. Rockin' that LT77 behind the 300 though. I wonder who did the work?

Your $75K would probably amount to the 50% deposit needed to secure a spot on the 2 year waiting list at ECR.

Ouch, then I'd buy a Johanmobile & ship it direct to Southwest Rovers aka Roadside Rob - he's got 3 LS loafs in the oven & purportedly keeps it below $25k, thus leaving a theoretical ~$25k to make it purdy...

That is quite a piece of marketing. It may very well be worth the asking price but for me a white D110 looks naked without the roll cage and the white fender flares are not going to be very pretty after a couple of thousand miles. I could only muster the patience to look at the first 12 photos.

IMO buying something as original as possible is a safer bet on a couple fronts. First, they should be easier to fix and maintain. Second, they're only original once and should maintain their value. Restorations don't last long, especially 99% of the ones you see today. Custom stuff always felt like what someone else wanted. Just my opinion.

Original is always better as stated above - unless you completely know/trust who did the work stated. This one has an odd combination of things - almost like they ran out of time or money or motivation before they 'finished' it...

- The outside is fresh paint but this interior is not - even looks like a slightly different color
- It had to be dis-assembled at some point since a lot of interior is newish - so odd why they didn't paint interior at the same time
- They bling out the seats and some other trim and put in carpet (which is a mistake in my opinion) but leave off the other interior plastic moldings across the middle row and back
- 300tdi is not original to that truck but I guess the swap was done in the US to avoid import issues?
- There is noticeable rust on the firewall/bulkhead in the pics of the dash where you can see behind to the firewall - that would only concern me more about what else is lurking there either under the covers, or worse whats under that new coat of paint

You should minimally get them to shoot pics of the obvious areas for rust - lots of info on this site to help you there but primary areas are the footwells, firewall around the windshield frame, sills (front and middle row), all door frames especially the bottoms, rear cross member and frame overall.

Love the white 110's. $75k is quite a bit of money for a lipstick 300 Tdi. Buy a solid 110 on the forum from one of the usual suspects, make it your own and better knowing what has gone into it, then go to hawaii on vacation afterwards. I believe that should still put you way under the $75k. But.... you don't get the instant satisfaction of having that thing roll up on the driveway two weeks later. For that, you need to pay....
