Wow..no affiliation

Stupid question...how does a 97 run up miles being towed? Electronic speedo, just curious.

Nice looking truck though and number 1 of 300 but 185k!!

Land Rover Defender D90 LE 001 of 300 - $37500 (Tenafly)

Reply to: see below [Errors when replying to ads?]

For Sale: 1997 Land Rover Defender D90 Limited Edition 001 of 300 Badged 001/300 This is a well cared for, garage kept D90 with 185k miles; miles mostly from being in tow across the country behind a family camper (bus actually). However after further inspection, one can see that this SUV looks to only have been driven 30k miles. Minor, but tasteful upgrades include the integrated 12k lbs. HUSKY SuperWinch, Mantec Front Bumper, Heated Front Seats, High Lift Jack, Military Heater Intake Snow Cover, Engine Block Heater, Weather Band, AM, FM iPod CD Radio, Boston Acoustic Speakers, Roof Mounted Pop-Up Tent and Rubber Mudd Floor mats. The limited edition WILLOW GREEN color, LE D90 are the last 300 Land Rover DEFENDERS allowed within the North American US market, this particular D90 is badged 001; probably one of the most interesting vehicles I have ever owned. Thank you for looking, Scott (two zero one) 463-4477 VIN: SALDV3240VA123201

Man that's a sweet looking truck!

Can you run up the mileage towing a 97...probably a supid question I just never thought of it before. I always wanted an LE.

------ Follow up post added February 5th, 2012 07:16 AM ------

That must be a cool looking badge 1 of 300. Josh I know you have to have a photo of that in your vast database!

Weren't these auto boxes? Did LR approve flat towing?
My take those miles were driven with a ton more miles flat towed.

This truck is in great shape. I have seen it a few times. I think he said it came from the Carolina's or Virginia.

Speed drive is on the t-case so if you did neutral in t-case I think it would rack up the miles as the rear prop would turn the drive.

Flat tow- isn't the key on so the front wheel's can pivot on turns ? If so the electronic speedo would register towed mileage from the speedo drive on the tranfer case as Ron points out.

Dont you turn the ignition on and then off...steering lock doesnt engage until you pull the key out..?? If you had to have the ignition on I am sure I would probably disconnect the battery, wouldn't that stop the mileage from racking up..??

001 is back on the market for a BIN of $37k at 180k miles.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...66229&viewitem=

Description:

For Sale: Limited Edition 1997 NAS Land Rover Defender D90 Station Wagon. This vehicle is of the last 300 sold within the United States, it is badged 001 / 300. The Limited Edition Models included the Willow Green color, featured Diamond Plate Panels (Wing Protectors, Rear Fender Ends, Rear Bumper Steps, Ladder Steps and Door Sill Protectors), 4.0L 182 HP Aluminum V8 Engine, ZF Four-Speed Automatic Transmission, High/Low Dual Range Transfer Box, Permanent Four-Wheel Drive, Lockable Center Differential, BF Goodrich All Terrain 265/75/R16 Tires, Ash Grey Twill Interior, Pop-Up Glass Sunroof, Six Person Seating with Four Fold-Away Rear Side-Facing Seats, Individually Numbered Heritage Plaque (001/300), Air Conditioning, Safari Cage, Flexible Black Wheel Flares, Class III Trailer Tow Hitch and Safari Roof Rack.
VERY CLEAN, No Accidents, +185k miles, Well Maintained (Actually Babied....) with small tastful upgrades which include four new Boston Accoustic Speakers located in place of the original speakers, Weather Band Radio: AM, FM, WB, CD and an integrated iPod Interface within Radio Control Head, Heated Front Seats, Hi-Lift Jack, 10k Lbs. Husky Winch with Factory Mantec Land Rover Integrated Bumper, Stainless Steel all around, Roof-Top Tent, Side Window Defogger Vents, OEM Rubber Mudd Matts and the Original Window Sticker (Framed).
This has been a great vehicle, as well as a wondeful part of our family; it's been everywhere on vacation with us, it's been towed around the country (hence the high mileage) and looks more like a vehicle with 20k miles on it as it has no rust showing (Under Door Sills, Floor Panel, etc are all rust free). I would consider trading towards a diesel TDi Audi Q7, BMW X5, Porsche Panamera 4 (yes Diesel...) and a VW Toureg. Thank you for looking and please feel free to call me directly if you have questions or would like to schedule a time to come see the vehicle in person. Scott 201-463-4477

Umm there is a reason that more expeditions worldwide are done yearly in Land rovers than EVER done in a jeep...and it ain't coz jeeps are better... Jeeps are famous.. Land rovers are legendary.. While granted.. Jeeps are a very good 4 wheel drive with plenty of stuff available in the aftermarket industry to make them even better, they can't seriously be held in the same revere as a land rover... You yanks have jeeps... The rest of the world has Land Rovers...and that's the way we like it..lol..

Oh gotcha. Youre talking about the early 70's before Toyota came on the scene at which point Rovers look foolish.

Seriously though, I jest. Or I wouldn't own a few Rovers myself.

While I grant you that the land cruiser is a darn sight closer to giving a land rover some competition than a cheep is, but he 70's ...??,.. Come on, Shirley you can't be serious...being from Australia I am no stranger to the virtues of the land cruiser.. But what the hell would you yanks know about good land cruisers here anyway.. You don't get any over here.....)..
