V8 90 selling advice

Hi guys, after some advice please

1984 90. UK car, RHD, full soft top. We’d like to sell it in the States but would like an idea of A) what to ask, and B) what you guys look for.

As it is -
Engine 4.2 V8 EFI from RRC, fully rebuilt and on LPG (could be removed)
ZF four speed auto
Chassis solid, bulkhead solid
Centre bulkhead behind front seats removed
Exmoor Trim front seats
Side hinged rear tailgate
Body scruffy – could do with wings, bonnet and new doors
Paintwork faded red
Home made tubular bumper with Superwinch X9

Plan would be to tidy it up before sale, so straight wings, doors etc and possibly a standard bumper.

Any ideas? Pics to follow.

Kev,
300TDI's is what we dream about. We have more than enough gas guzzling V8s floating around. Puma hoods are sought after for some of us. Little rust as possible.
Just imagine that we can get small parts to fix rovers but anything big to correct rust, rusty frames, doors are just hard and expensive to come by.
24 spline axles too rather than the 10s, disc brakes and R380s tranny not the LT77 as they are weak.

Thanks Clay. I've read how keen you are on Tdis. They are ten a penny here in rotten old Discos and you can pick up fully dressed engines for 300 if you look around. 200s are even cheaper; the one in my 88 cost 150. Perhaps that's the way to go. We have a ex-National Trust '98 300Tdi 110 HCPU in bits awaiting a new chassis but the goodies could be swapped over I suppose.

Have a good weekend

Kev

The high end here is LHD 110 with PUMA ( crew cabs are sought after ) ... basically a ROW 110 with a pre-1985 logbook and MOT. 'Restoration' photos are rare as hens teeth ... I wouldn't like to have a run in with a 4x4 savvy policeman in the UK ... but the export process seems to legitimize them. That being said I might restore one and bring it over soon! ;-)

LHD is going to bring the most money ... everything here is drive through ... cashpoint, coffee, strip clubs ... RHD is a pain ...

People want good solid trucks ... galv chassis are desirable because they are expensive due to shipping costs ... but wouldn't raise the shipping cost on a ro-ro.

Disco engines and LHD is quirky ... a genuine Defender 200/300 tdi would be best. LPG hasn't caught on over here ... you'd be better keeping it in the UK.

From board discussions there seems to be a pretty strong market for $12-13K vehicles ... if you could deliver a galv chassis, LHD, 300 TDI for around that you'd sell them by the dozen!

Watch the exchange rate if you are thinking about shipping trucks ... if it goes the wrong way it could seriously hurt your profit!
