Spoke to dealer. It's physically at the dealer and the guy is definately at the Lynnfield, MA dealer (not some scam)

It is indeed titled as a 2008 Defender 110.
He said he doesn't know how the PO imported it but was told it took about a year and a half and a "considerable amount of money". They took it as a trade for a customer on another vehicle.
I inquired about reviewing the original import paperwork and he said he's waiting on that from PO.

The way I see this is that somebody has an opportunity to buy a Puma with most of the financial and liability risk on the back of a legitimate (and big) dealer. One of the biggest arguments against buying a Puma is that somebody could show up and confiscate it. That and if you got in an accident and the insurance denied coverage or something. If you buy one from a licensed car dealership you set yourself up for some type of "backstop" plan to recoup your losses. Not promoting anyone being litigious as that sucks, but if a huge dealership can insulate you from some risk why not take the leap?

FWIW he also said it was originally black, not white as the VIN lookup suggested. I don't know anything about that, but regardless what color is was or is, it is pretty damn cool.

I suggested that I'd see if i could come up on Wednesday and take a look (which may or may not happen), but that the price was a bit strong. He replied "well, we can work all that out" which to me suggests that there's more than enough wiggle room there.

Bottom line is that it does pass the initial "smell test" and somebody should snap this up for a price that makes sense (whatever that is).

Roof racks and parking garages don't play well together...

WANTS $100k

I'll take the one offered by the dealer all things being equal. For the aforementioned reasons.
Even with the low miles on the Detriot offering, I'd take the black one.

I talked to the Michigan guy too. Told me the truck is here on a six month visa but within weeks the paperwork will be done to make it stay. All he had to do was add a mph speedo and an airbag!!!!

I'm a buyer, but not at $100k. That would change if I had "F/U Money", but for now I start getting a bit wet at around $75,000. (cooincedentally right around the cost of new RR).

Just trade in the Porsche and the 110 for it.

So the PO found a way around the laws or a loophole in the system that when combined with a lot of money allowed him a benefit not available to the general public.

Obviously it was owned and imported by a politician!

Ha! maybe it was a politician.
More likely is was the guy who put the politician in his office!

I'm not hatin' on the fact that some people have the connections, juice, money or whatever to pull this off.

You can be gaurantied that whatever the loophole was at some point in the process somebody pulled something shady. As far as I'm concerned, it wasn't me so whatever. The title was granted in Florida FWIW. It could have come into the the states under a manufacturer demonstration and promotion exemption with stipulation that it be exported or destroyed in a period of time. Then who knows how it receives a title that supposedly shows it correctly as a 2008 Defender. I'd want to know the back story, but in this case it's sort of not important. If DOT showed up and took it or made you crush it, I'd just head over to Herb Chambers' Corporate Offices and ask for my money back. (for those that aren't family with Chambers, it is one of the largest multi-point franchise holders in the northeast....and privately held still by Herb Chambers).

I would only consider this truck because it is sorta "washed", or blessed by a bigtime franchised dealership.

In the ad it seems to be being "spun" as a range rover. That could have been the vector for it into the country. But it could have gotten in other ways as well.

The warning is, if it is registered as range rover, and it is in a major accident with human injury, a garden variety insurance investigator would note the difference. And that difference would constitute fraud, and the policy could/would be terminated.

Sure someone could buy it, register it, drive it around Nantucket for years, and never have a problem with police or RMV. That could all change as soon as an insurance company gets involved, they use any means possible not to pay out. Some of my best friends are insurance investigators.

All of us have know the hang ups / pitfalls of vin-swapped trucks and bogus titles, but lets operate under the assumption that this truck's title reads as a 2008 Defender 110 because that's what the dealer said.

Now, if it turns out that the insurance company blows you up, or Mike Smith rats you out to EPA or DOT and you lose your new $100,000 truck, guess what.......a licensed car dealer sold you that truck.....one that probably has two or three Land Rover franchises under its corporate umbrella. What are the odds that the consumer will be held responsible if this is found out to be illegal? In Massachusetts I'm gonna say zero chance. If it were ABC Used Cars with three nickels in credit to their name, maybe you're screwed, but Chambers?

I don't know, I'm looking at this like a free pass.

HC has at least one LR franchise to lose.

I will not deny that it peaked my interest...

I'm on the market right now for a 110 so I almost $hit myself when I saw this.

It looks like it has been going around the dealer circuit...like 2-3 dealers listed this vehicles at different times or simultaneously(?)
