I have had all 3 as personal vehicles, in my opinion the TD5 is a nice smooth vehicle to have, but it doesn't compare to the tdci which develops smoother power and better economy. Also I every TD5 i have has I have had engine problems about the 40,000 mile mark, not too costly, but anoying any way. Just my personal opinion.

300tdi on a long run gave me 25mpg at 70mph
TD5 on a similar Journey gave me 21mpg at 75mph
The tdci gave 25mpg at 85mph.

You're overlooking what's been done to the truck: galvanized chassis, engine/turbo upgrades, upgraded suspension, leather interior, heated windshield, power doors/windows, bling sound system etc.

Add all that up and you've got a pretty bespoke truck. I've seen the math, trust me the margins aren't that exhorbitant. Berkshire will sell you a bone stock TDCI with a galvy chassis for $65-70K depending on exchange rates. Start throwing bits of kit at ait and the price goes up.
