NOT a Defender, but still strangely appealing

Stumbled on this offering in my morning www.bringatrailer.com reading.

I'm sure its nowhere near as robust as a Defender, but I bet it would suit the needs of those doing some mild overland travels. I'd even call it ugly. I wonder if you could get Boosts to fit it?

So one has to wonder how he was able to get tags for it through all the CARB baloney?

Good question.
I'm calling BS on the seller's assertion that it "never needs emission testing". Also, those tags could have been slapped on there from another vehicle for all we know. I doubt this would fly in the Republik. THat's probably why its FS.

Delicas are a dime a dozen over in here in Japan. Supposedly they are pretty decent overland vehicles. Crazy thing is that's a $500-$1000 truck all day here.

Lots of opportunities for those mid 80s Japanese vans. Here is what's left the Toyota version:

Yeah, I though the $15k ask was more than ambitious, but still a cool unique vehicle.

So, say you spend double what you say they go for in Japan for a really nice one ($2,000) and spend another $3,000 getting it transported, you're doing a lot better than $15,000.

I could see these being really really tippy when laden.

I always thought one like this would be cool. Solid front axle and diesel.
