This was the gun everyone swore by for deer hunting in brush in the 70's. Not sure its true but the argument was that the round could touch a twig etc and not vary in its path where a 30.06 would veer off target.

You are correct, up to 150yds ( maybe , 200 ) this is a very accurate gun , then take in consideration the price, it is perfect for hunting. I has in my opinion it has the more juice. They use the same ballistic ( 30.30, 30-06 and even the .308 ).

I took my Win 1894 ( almost same gun except the price )Deer, Bear, Wild Boar and Ram hunting and I had nothing but success.

Does that come with a fluted barrel? I don't really need it but I find those interesting in 308 because I'd like to dabble with precision shooting in .308. I like stuff like jeweled bolts and 2 stage triggers. Yesterday I bought and put together my first AR fluted barrel I got from Bushmaster. 24 inch barrel length, floating foregrip rail, supposedly I should be able to get within 3/4 of an inch at 100 yards. Not bad for a semi-auto with 30 rnd/100 rnd mags right?

If you haven't already found them, LaRue Tactical is a great AR shop: http://larue.com. They have a great 308 Gas Gun they introduced last year. I went from ringing steel at 1k one weekend to shooting a run-n-gun the next weekend. Rifle proofed at just a bit over half MOA.
