Looking for the scoop on this one...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1994-...item588cc50b2a

I heard it was bought at auction, but looks clean and carfax checks out. It has been floating around for awhile and wanted to see if there was more to the story. Can't just be the zebra seat covers... Many thanks.

I think the guy bought it at auction for fairly cheap and clearly knows nothing about marketing a defender.

I still have not gone to check this truck out, but that dealer scares me. They're at least somewhat local if that truck really excites you though. You could always just buy Barry's blue truck.

We spoke about it a few months back when it was listed for $45k. Looks like he's come down in price a little, but he'd be smarter to spend money on new seats.

Thanks for the offer to go check it out, but i'm lukewarm at $40k from a sketchy dealer. I got the name of a guy that supposedly saw it at auction and passed. Will start with him. Thanks again.

You are one of two people in Manhattan beach who tried to buy that truck last week.

Now being used as bait

This one has resurfaced as a scam. Entertaining. Email I recieved from hjcoleman86@hotmail.com:

"Thanks for being interested in buying my 1994 Land Rover Defender D90 SOFT TOP . It is in a good condition, no scratches, no damages, never been implicated in any accidents, no problems at the engine, runs very well. Here is an amazing, 29,438 miles, Manual, clear title, a perfect car.

The price is $ 9,600 . The only thing because I am selling it, because I divorced with my husband and after the divorce I own this car, now as a woman I don`t need it... "

The pics must be from the previous sale as they are taken outside of the Bonfire in Patersen, NJ.

Now the hook.

"I would like to call you,i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls are restricted. Because of my job I can't meet anyone to show the defender . I had pre-arranged the deal with eBay so my presence is not necessary , the defender is in their possession ready to be delivered. eBay will handle this transaction for me. The defender is insured in case of damage and it takes 7 days to be delivered at your door. It will come with all the necessary paperwork (clear title, bill of sale, user's manual, insurance etc). You will receive all the original documents and keys with the defender. I signed all the paperwork and the clear title is ready to be transferred to the new owner.
The total price that you will pay is $9,600 with fees and shipping included.
First payment is $1,600 and the rest of payment ($8,000) you can make after you receive the defender and decide to keep it.
Please get back to me with your full name, full address so i can forward your details to eBay in order for you to receive the invoice regarding the terms and conditions of this transaction.
Thank you,
Christine"

So sexist. So as a woman, she doesn't need the truck, but she's also a Marine engineer? I thought all Marine engineers wanted defenders.

Speaking if your Arles Barry, how about a registry page? I would like to see your 90.

I looked at the zebra seat truck when It was at the dealer in Patterson a couple of years ago. The truck was a bit of a mess and wouldn't start when I looked at it. On top of that the dealer seemed pretty sketchy, clearly didn't know anything about the truck and they were asking $40k.
