I believe there is a fella around here who probably knows a thing or two about these trucks. I'm sure he'll be around shortly.

Yea I spoke to Kelly and he seems like a great guy. I was just looking for an independent assessment. He actually suggested I look here to see if anyone has seen/would see these trucks and give an opinion.

Patrick: You will find no better a person to deal with in the car market. Kelly is as stand up as they come ... not only as a salesman, but as a humanoid.

If he says something is "a good truck", ... you can take it to the bank.

I have purchased 5 trucks through Kelly.

The red 94 with 102,000 mile on it is my old truck. Wish I had sold it for that kind of money. I've got info on it it if that is the one you are looking at. Let me know.

Yeah if you're looking red, there have been pleeeeenty of red ones come up for sale lately for much better prices than $28k for 100k miles+.

Back when I was looking/buying, they had some trucks they wouldn't budge on even though they were priced $7-8k+ over what was market, and I still had to factor in shipping, etc. They'd just say they paid too much for it and that they wouldn't budge; checked back a month later and still the same answer. The black one in question was on their lot for many months...probably because of the price, but the pics were also taken before detailing, so that may have had something to do with it.

You'll find that around $19k can get you a nice red truck right now. Like Scott said that's his old truck, and last I saw it was priced on here for $16k when he was selling. That's about all I know about the truck, and my experience with them.

PS - Very nice salesmen, and always got quick e-mail responses if I recall.

thanks

Thanks for the info everyone. I like the trucks and I like Kelly but I really don't want to pay $10,000 dealer tax. I keep missing these nice, sub 20's trucks somehow. Combing over this forum, I feel like things are drying up a little bit. If anyone sees a good deal out there let me know.

Hey Guys--

Thanks for the compliments....The 2 trucks in question, i gave $22000 for one and $21500 for the other....i can't remember which is which. One needed quite a bit of work (the one without the winch) and the other needed tires and a complete service (the previous owner had spent a LARGE amount of money on it). I do aggree the dealer always gets more for Defenders but that stands to reason. Most of my clients aren't you guys but drive by customers. We hope for the asking price, and sometimes get it, but more often not. We always seek out Defenders as they never get traded in and it seems the sweet spot for us is in the 20's. If i have the truck that will suit you make offers. Both of these trucks are now in good shape and would be perfect "user trucks".

Kelly is as straight as they come, period. Kudos for integrity!!! And he is right, Defenders that have been unmaintained eat thousands of dollars... as can the low milage garage queens.
