Griphoist tirfor...the ultimate hand winch..

Here is what is long considered the ultimate in hand operated mechanical winches.. This is the 4000lb model and takes the 7/16ths cable.. I have 2 of these and only keeping one for my upcoming world trip in my camel trophy 110... Excellent mechanical backup or useful for when you roll your truck onto its side... Or for stopping it from sliding down the sides of a shale mountain in the desolate plains of innermost Mongolia ..comes just as you see it..I use e hi-lift handle... This sucker is heavy so shipping may be a bitch...$250.????Click image for larger version

FWIW, I just researched WTF this thing is. Retails new at Grainger for $2077 and weighs 63lbs. Since it's under the 70lb weight limit it should only cost about $40-$50 to ship via FedEx or UPS.

Tempting.....

yes but you can haul around a coil of only about a length of 20 or so feet and use your synthetic winch extender to attatch to whatever you want...you only need as much cable as the length of travel you are going to winch... and yes...these suckers are freaking expensive new....but priceless when you need em...LOL.. I have a winch front and rear on my 110 and carry this in my recovery kit with a roll of 100feet of the cable as well as 100 feet of synthetic winch line...as well as the 125ft on the front and 100ft on the rear of synthetic as well as the pull pal...can you say .."over-prepared"...LOL..

IIRC it has to be the Tifor cable only.

You got a most excellent deal. You're lucky I had to go in to the office today rather than working from home as I usually do.

they say that a tirfor cable is more "crush resistant" to a regular one...I have loaded my unit up quite extensively and it works great...the only problem is that it has to have one end that is bare as it threads through the tirfor...that means taping or some other form to stop the end from fraying...

Makes sense. You can get crush resistant cable, IWRC, from wire rope suppliers.

That's good to know about the crush resistant cable. There is a good cable supplier near me so I will hit them up for it.
