Golf Balls

I've seen stranger things post here, so why not . . .

My family lives on a golf course, and over the last 2 years they've collected all of the shanked balls that have landed in their yard. Clearly they must get some pretty bad golfers on this course, because in a fit of generosity (?) they brought up all 1403 for me to sell, saying the money can go in the kids' college fund. How they think I"m going to sell 1400 golf balls I have no idea, and I really have no idea what to do with these damn things -- I'm assuming there's a secondary market for them, but not being a golfer, I'm at a loss. Any ideas out there?

So here's what several hours counting golf balls has yielded:
73 Colored / glow in the dark of mixed manufacture (and color for that matter)
109 Maxfli / Noodle
160 Nike
53 Slazenger
84 Callaway
313 Titleist
208 Topflite
152 Pinnacle
251 others, a mixed bag of Dunlops and others (it was at this point I got sick of counting golf balls and used the last strength in my hands to open a bottle of wine).

I didn't notice any chunks out of them, though some are a little dirty, many have corporate logos and some have silly markings to help people (obviously unsuccessfully) find their balls when they hit them poorly. I don't believe any have been underwater, but they've all been hit poorly at least once . . .

In the mean time I'm tripping over these damn things and I want them out of the house -- 1400 golf balls isn't a small amount! Best to give them to goodwill? put them on fleabay? I put them on CL and predictably haven't gotten one bite.

On your next car ride you could take them with you and drop a few at a time out the window.

Check those Titleists to see if they are PRO V1's. If you can see any of them i would imagine it would be them.

A guy here in Baltimore area has sold them ( like yours but can't speak for the brands ) for $ 10.00 for each hundred balls for practice or as suggested to drop out of your vehicle when being tailgated ;-)

maybe that is what you need to do instead of unloading 1400 all at once

My dad does this every year after returning from a winter stay in Amelia Island. Assuming new condition, many of those balls (the Nike, Calloway, and Titleist) will fetch $2/each. Bad time of the year to unload golf balls, but post those in groups of 50 for $100 on Craigslist and they will be sold tomorrow.

For the rest, 25 cents/each at best.

Good call, Russell, I'll give that a whirl.

Scott, if you can tell me how to actually date these things, I'll happily set them aside for you.

You could use them to balance your tires It would probably work, but I think I'd prefer bbs.

If they are from Fords Colony, then you definitely have a bunch of mine although mine would most likely be found either in the front yard or the living room. Wicked slice here. Seriously, I'm surprised FC Pro Shop wasn't interested.

OK, Russell, they went up last night.

JP, you'd be amazed (or maybe you wouldn't be) how far off course these things go. Never mind the dimple dents all over the cars of the residents, broken windows, dents in the siding of the house. This whole living on a golf course thing ain't easy . . .

A few years ago, a bunch of us were golfing with one of my buddies who had just started playing and one of two who shoots lefty. He got up to the first tee, smacked the ball, it sliced like crazy and hit a roofer doing work on one of the new houses in the development surrounding the course. I thought I was going to lose it I was laughing so hard. A few holes later he sliced the ball and hit the side of a house and put a hole in the aluminum siding. The owner was reading a book inside the room he hit at the time, and came outside to inspect it. I was amazed by his calmness; the owner basically just looked at the hole and looked at my friend in amazement and in awe of his terrible shot.

The Pro v 1 and pro v 1 x titelist are the "good" ones, yes?

Josh, in that same vein, not long after my folks moved down there, my mother was on the back deck. All of a sudden there's an almighty SMACK. Can't see what it hit, but it sounded like it came from the driveway. Goes over to her car (3 series convertible) and sees a massive dent in the door. 30 seconds later a guy walks up, says "Oh god, I"m sorry, I'm Admiral something or other, here's my Insurace contact information, they know about my golfing. Turns out this wasnt' the first time USAA had to fix a dented car from the Admiral's slice!

If you can't find a buyer donate them to a High School Golf team.
Just a thought..
