we're trying man! People need not be afraid to engage ... I would love it if everyone here signed up, told your friend to sign up, and so on...so far we've seen good success since we started. Key is to find high quality trucks and reasonable prices. Selling with us costs nothing so shouldnt be any barriers. We may not beat them on eyeballs (yet) but we certainly do beat them on customer service!

thanks for the support...now go bid on that 993tt. The guy is a freakish OCD car nut, it's mint.

Only if you want buyers that can't afford to pay if they win.

Great job!

I asked the same question ... he believes it is a repaint of the original color. So I dug through old paint codes but couldn't find it in my limited search. Would love for a G-expert to chime in here.

The Mercedes dealer. No joke. They just keep making almost all parts for almost all of their vintage cars. I bought new wood trim for my 1969 MB from my local dealer, among other things. If the only old cars you've owned are Rovers, it's a fucking magical experience.

Thanks guys

Yea this is one of the reasons I didn't go with the Benz. I did some parts price comparisons, way more expensive. I am seeing $1300 suspension springs, $1700 Bilstein shocks.

Here is a rod end by the same manufacturer, Lemforder

Defender $16

Mercedes $53

Since this is in the flea market and non-LR related, do your research before buying the 3.5l turbo diesel. They are notorious for bent rods and failed head gaskets. That said, I am certain that reliable, well maintained and appreciated versions exist. The truck in question looks quite nice!

The final years of the 3.5, 96-97MY, had redesigned connecting rods and are the more desirable versions. You can do a direct swap of the preceding om603a 3.0 turbo or N/A engine, which overall is thought of as a more reliable engine although not without cracked block problems. The ideal is an om606a but by then, you are sourcing a donor sedan from the states and doing more than dropping in an engine (IC, throttle cable rework, custom exhaust, custom airbox).

I hunted for an om606 G for about a year before finding the right one. Like the 300tdi or the td5, they are not of the age of import yet, but unlike these LR engines, the om606 was in a US sedan from mid to late 90s, so they exist in terms of donor cars and shops that have serviced them for years.

Adam, for most parts, there is a MB or a G-wagen premium, but I have done Bilstein and springs for maybe $100-200 over a similar setup on a 110.

So much want! GLWS

My dream garage is a Defender 90 and 911 for the weekends, and a G for a daily. One down two to go...

We have had 3 G over the years, 2 currently (om617 and om606 engines). G550 with stock US 5.5l NA engine, incredible v8, sounds like a boat engine with the rumble, easy to work on mechanically and with a basic MB specific scanner. The 50k service is a $3k+ dealer expense, but in reality, if you can work on a Defender, you can work on a G and the service including all required tools will be less than $700 for example:

-Differential fluids, simple
-Auto trans filter, gasket, and fluid fill including torque converter; this did require a $100 pressurized fill device
-Air filters, oil filter and oil
-Flush hydraulic fluid for triple lockers
-TC fluid swap

There are endless videos and forums online for these services. A few diesel specific parts suppliers exist in addition to the MB parts suppliers. On more recent G wagens, you will read about window regulators and door lock actuators. Sure, from MB, they are huge ticket items, but I can now do either swap in less than 30min and for the door locks, a generic 2 wire actuator that costs $10 and you splice in to original wiring is a simple solution. These really are as simple as Defenders but with a premium tag and a premium ride. You drive one on the highway and ask where the hell LR went wrong and all with no loss of true 4x4 functioning.

GLWS.
