I thought that might be T.C. 's old truck. He has had it forever.

Who was the friend of Badger that was in the Camel Trophy? Fred what? He brought a C T disco to an Atlantic British in 90-91. I wonder if it is the same truck?

Fred Monsees. No, I don't believe this truck belonged to Fred.

No it didn't. It was on lone and he brought it to the rally that year. I have pics of a CT disco that he brought.
I have a couple of CT stickers that Fred gave me. If I recall , he came in 1990 and 1991.

Seller had it a few years and just wheeled it, no idea it's LR history...
The seller did call after the first fella bought it on site just to follow up as he promised.
With Will's help, and the CTOC, we are 99.9% sure it was an orig CT truck- likely all 14k miles were off road, and not easy miles. They used to say a CT event was the equivalent of 100k normal miles for the vehicle. And this had a CT as well as scouted a CT event, and then a training rig.
Bottom line, worth easily 10x what it sold...

From the looks of it, those were the only types of people in contention for this truck anyway.

Depends on how far down the list you go...the guy had quite a few people in line. I know of at least one that had no intention of flipping it, or doing anything other than appropriate minor restoration.

It'll be on eBay in a few months with a starting bid of $10k.

That was my plan. Repair the rear section, strip and repaint the rusting accessories and then just drive it. By the time I had a moment to call, it was already sold. The guy was very nice and let me know how long the line was before it was finally taken.

Yeah it will. If you can sell a CT plaque for $200+, the truck will go for a good amount.

I'd have easily bought it for $1500. Well, would have if I had an extra $1500 and the time to drive out to haul it back. And kept it.

Dam I wish. Flight got delayed from BWI, and I missed the next one laying under my 110. Damit!

"The Discovery shown belongs to Tom Collins the U.S. Camel Trophy Team Coordinator from 1990 to 1998. Collins coached the team to a first place finish in 93 and 2nd place finishes in 92 and 96. He competed in the 87 event and fought a hotly contested battle with the Italian team, only to get second place by a handful of points. The old Disco lives in retirement, a gift to Collins from Land Rover for his many years of service as the U.S. Team Coordinator and for being a driving force in their off-highway instructional team since 1989."

Maybe, heritage report on the way

Last I heard of the truck it was totally trashed in an accident in Mexico.

So I'm guessing it was rebuilt with available parts as best could be recreated.
It is damaged....and was fixed, in the most redneck way possible aka plexiglass and silicon, by a really nice and honorable ex-miner who enjoys mudding.......it was hilarious.....think camaro's on jacked up Toyota frames....seriously....said he wasn't gonna sell it for all that money those other folks were counter offering, he sold it to whoever got in line first with cash....me.

Ouch, but true in a sense.....I have a RRC with 230,000 miles and use every day and would never sell it. What you read somewhere else was me making sure it wasn't a dud.....a fake yah know..... I do sell land rovers and toyotas when I come across a deal....i am a certified mechanic.... Might as well use my talents....and this was one I jumped on.... They say success is a combination of persistence and luck.... Btw, I wasn't gonna buy a great divide model before this popped up

Where is my spiff for posting the ad or did you see it on CL not here?

How about a nice set of detailed photos? What all is in the box of spares?

Check it? I found it on Craigslist 5 minutes after it was posted....then called him. Told him I would be there next day with cash. He said he would wait one day. The box had 4 link parts, belts, throw out bearing, oil sensors, seals, lots of original land rover parts....plus rat poop....

Congrats on the purchase, that's a heck of a swoop even with the issues. Good to know it went to someone in the community.

Do you have any non hipstergram photos?

Does "body work is for the next guy" mean that you are going to flip it?
