We are like a group of old women with knitting needles sitting around gossiping

I emailed the guy and his response, drum roll please:

Hello,
I'm located in san mateo california. Car has previous salvage title from a flood. Car is fine now and electronic parts were replaced. It has 102k miles and my shop has gone thru the car and it runs excellent.
Let me know if u want to see it.
Thanks
Anthony

I have never seen or heard of this truck before and it is in my area. San Mateo is about 10 minutes from me. Funny how it is not on the SF Bay Area CL but is listed in Southern California.Did he give you the name of his shop, I will stop by if he did.

39k for a salvage title? Nice that he mentioned that salient fact in the ad. I wouldn't touch a flood car without a whole lot of evidence (receipts, pix) that it had been fixed. This truck was sold by Maxline in 06 with no title, and was on ebay in November 08 with a salvage title from WA.

I bet the frame VIN and Title VIN don't match.

Thanks, Barry. Veracom is about ten minutes from my house. My good buddies shop is one block away. I am going to send him over there just for giggles to take a look. I will go by there on Monday if can in my 110 to take a look. I have a feeling that when he sees another 110 and someone who knows a little about 110's the story on the truck will change. Will keep everyone posted.

That is sort of an oxymoron. It just means the truck was being used properly

Not quite, it means that it wasn't being used properly if the use resulted in a salvage title.

Please educate me on how to check that the vin and title vin will match. Do I have to check the frame numbers, engine numbers, and vin tag. Or is it just as simple as matching the pink slip to the vin tag on the dash? Where is the numbers on the frame? My friend is now very interested in this truck but I wont let him pay near that much for it even if all the numbers are correct.

Who cares if it matches or not. If it had a new frame from an accident it wouldn't match. Once the title is branded it makes no difference.

FYI - if the VIN on the bulkhead, on the driver's side door post, and the front passenger side frame rail match, then those three parts are original, but that's all that really means. Its already allegedly a flood truck, which could mean anything from light water damage to a frame that are rotting from the inside out. I wouldn't buy a salvage truck unless I was given the opportunity to pay a salvage price i.e. 40-60% off market price. I know a lot of other people feel otherwise, but I personally want to protect my investment, and a salvage title doesn't support that. I would strongly advise a friend against this truck, even at 25k. I'd want to pay under 20, but recognize that there would probably be buyers at 25k+. I'll be shocked, shocked, if he can get in the 30's.

I remember when this truck went through maxline, it was almost four years ago. They told me all they did was replace the ECU and fired it up. That is all that was done to it. It was an ebay sale IIRC.

Oh, now I remember which one this is. Wasn't it somewhere in the south or east coast? I seem to remember GA or NC a couple years ago, and it was going for closer to it's true value at the time (IIRC).

sweet hub paint job. I guess the lug nuts were too rusted to remove the wheels prior to painting
