What is the point of this thread? If the goal is to continue to heighten the scrutiny our community already receives from certain government agencies.... than by all means keep it up guys.

In the 90s and 2000s, there were primarily Texas and California based companies that would "rebuild" your VW Beetle's floorpan to 1990-2004 spec Mexican Beetle. A search of the usual forums reveals about 20-30 Mexican Beetles for sale in the US at any given time over the past 5-10 years. This is not a new idea, and the only difference appears to be that LRNA or JLR are using the CBP as puppets given their interests, based on a review of the court documents in the recent case. VW has always had bigger fish to fry, especially now with their clean diesels.

Just throwing out hypotheticals, I wasn't proposing anyone take the risk on it.

But essentially all of the 'parts' are already in the US, more than likely if someone did buy it they would just drive it down to the dmv and enter a shitstorm and have some serious 'splaining to do.

I mean this sort of 'build' is already happening stateside I am sure, people just aren't broadcasting that they are taking entire trucks from the UK and have them containered to 're-build' stateside. It's a ton of labor and I am sure parts get damaged along the way, if you want something bad enough you can find a way to get it done.

I am sure your local inspection station could give 2 shits about your '25 year old' truck when they do a safety inspection on it, and your local DMV doesn't likely inspect your classic vehicle either. It's not like $60K plus a frame, plus 80 hours of labor to swap it, plus the original donor is exactly an economical way to buy a $40K land rover. But if you had $100K burning a hole in your pocket you likely could care less anyway
