He had this for sale at the ABFM here in Portland. I recommended that he connect with BAT to see if they could help hom expose the truck to a broader market. It will be interesting to see where it goes. The peeling clear coat was thr only real cosmetic flaw, and it was only peeling on yhe passengers side. Seemed weird, like a possible old repair that was not holdind up like it should. There was no other evidence of a respray that I saw though. Did these have base/clear paint from the factory?

peeling clear coat would be the last thing I'd worry about on a 20-year old Defender.
Looks like a nice rig, though I misunderstood when I first read because I thought it was the original owner. No matter, still a nice offering and since Bring-A-Trailer is a legitimate auction with real people and doubt they allow any schill bids and nonsense like that it will be a nice data-point if it sells.

I didn't know that was the same truck, but I thought it looked like a really clean one. Definitely worth the money he was asking.

Btw Toby. Sorry didn't get to meet up with you at ABFM. Loved the Dormobile, and I wanted to check out your engine. Heard you put a 300tdi manifold and turbo on your 200tdi. Wanted to hear your thoughts

Looks like a respray to me. Note the door handle opening. It didn't have full color inside like that. And that is a good amount of orange peal beneath the flaked clear coat that works to mask it.

p-a-t-i-n-a!
...as long as the ask isn't north of $40, I'd be okay with some orange peel. I mean considering the BEST paint job done in the UK is comparable to Maaco, I don't see how that's (the less than perfect paint) anything but an opportunity to get a better deal.

Update: $33,000 + 5% buyers premium

This just hammered at $33,000 plus a 5% buyers premium, so roughly $35,000.

Nice truck. Good market data point for the noobs asking the questions.

I thought so as well. It is an LT77 and there are those paint flaws mentioned, but the truck looks solid and very rust free in the important areas.
