bidding seems to slowed down at 75.5K! This would have been a good investment in 1997. over a 50% return? Maybe the we can get the same return on the new Defender in 2015

Probably no relist, just use Ebay to generate interest and then sell it privately without having to pay the Ebay fees. Big plus is that with such an unusual item you get to see the market value.

That's a good tactic to get a feel for what people are willing to pay for the truck.

I spoke with the seller the last time and he had said the reserve was $90k and he was thinking about relisting closer to that number, but also talking to interested parties who had contacted him. Don't know if that reserve holds for this round as well, but we'll see.

Assuming he paid 40K in 1997 and gets 90K in 2011, that's about a 6% annual return. Factor in the annual carrying costs (excise tax, registration, state inspection, insurance, and storage) and this was not a particularly good investment. An interesting investment but not a very lucrative one.

BTW, The base period T-bill rate for the period ending September 30, 1997 was 5.68%

I think these were more in the $27k-$30K range in 97.

I think sticker on these in 97 were $32-$34K and it looks like this thing hasn't been registered in years, at least for the road. Looks like it's been registered as a Non-Operational vehicle. In LA that's probably less than $20/year.

Nah Barry, just sent him a quick question asking the reserve. Did not go as far as you and call his son's cell phone or anything like that. He gave me the answer an a little more info.

Brian, not sure if it's in the ad this time around, but last time he had disclosed he had it registered non-op for years for just airport use.

The last pic shows Non-Op registration paperwork. Same pic in both auctions. The airport only really has 1 road through it too and it's not very long so he had to have driven on public roads to round the airport.
