2010 Ebay Defender scam?

Land Rover Defender Land Rover | eBay

hey guys, I am new to this forum but have read a lot of your posts about scam vehicles and such. this Defender is listed as a 2010, which makes no sense. even the dash is from an older vehicle. However, his title from Arizona shows a VIN that came up to a 2010 Defender.

is this a case of mismatching VIN's? or is this something legit based on your quick glance.

Thanks,
James

Usually they use a 2010 vehicle with a 1985 VIN. Not sure what is going on if they use an old vehicle and put a new VIN on.

It is also for sale in Georgia with an Arizona title. Again, it is weird. Not making much sense.

Listing a "2010" Defender, regardless of condition, is just asking for trouble. Plus, it's ugly.

I think it looks awesome, except for the price. However, it just screams scam...

Carb V-8. Looks like an Arkonik build. Probably legit pre 1990 vehicle but who knows why titled as a 2010. I'd get that sorted before considering further. Contact them directly: http://www.arkonik.com/

if you EXPERTS bother to read the add, the Seller listed the VIN on the vehicle , it pertains to a V8 LHD 83

So perhaps, while in the land of the free, we embrace them for doing a nice renovation on an old vehicle, instead of Accuse / Trial. Judge and Sentence without foundation

Happy snowday

Ok, ok, fair enough. I still feel it's ugly.

Pretty dang nice, though. Not my style, but clean and shiny. Switch the wheels and put colored signals back on it (imo clear on white is ok, but colored on darker paint looks killer) and it would be choice. Blingy mall crawler nice, but still nice.

Why, oh why, after all that fussing around with the interior do they not change out those steering wheels? It's such a cheap and palpable upgrade!!! Why oh why? ;-)

Rugbier,

The VIN comes back as a 2010 when I have run it through several websites that check VIN's and I have seen the vehicle's title- listed as a 2010. That's why I have asked the question... Obviously this isn't a 2010, hence the post. When I looked at the website that explains the LR VIN's, I clearly see that isn't as what the vehicle title says.

Again, I am trying to see the legitimacy of the vehicle that is for sale. Maybe Arizona uses the wrong VIN decoder software and thats how it happened. who knows...regardless, it is odd enough not to consider for purchasing at 75k.

I would imagine this was a title error at the DMV ...

If you look on the https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ it shows the date of first registration as 01 October 2014. That is probably when it was imported to the UK ... so unsurprisingly a Euro truck sourced and taken to the UK ... tarted up and then sold to an American customer.

Sometimes the uk site indicates an export marker to show it left the UK ... this truck doesn't indicate it's been exported, but it clearly has. Not a big deal but would be better if it was correctly set.

Clifton Scientific Text Services, the Netherlands shows the VIN as being correct for a 1983 truck.

SAL Manufacturer code: Land Rover
LD Model: Defender (for early models: Ninety, or One Ten)
H Wheel base: 110 inch
M Body type: 4-door station wagon (LWB)
V Engine type: 3.5 litre V8 petrol, carburettor
2 Steering and transmission: Left-hand drive (LHD), 4-speed manual (LT95, or other)
A Model year: 1983, 1984
A Assembly location: Solihull, UK
199283 Serial number

Likely because they started reusing the AA/BA etc in later puma trucks.

That is def/90% an Arkonik truck - probably send them an email and you can get details on it.

Common error at DMV when an old VIN is used. Land Rover has been reusing VINS so I am told.
This error has happened multiple times with me. The DMV rep has to manually overided the system and re input the VIN correctly with the year. I dont know how it was allowed to print as a 2010 if that is true. Usually they show up with a 2010 Range Rover VIN.

I can personally vouch for this 110. I have driven it and been all through it. It's a LandroversUK truck from a few years ago. Owned by an Arizona ball player. He traded it for another car with this dealer in Atlanta. It's been at the dealer in Atlanta for a few months now. This dealer has a good reputation and do a lot of highline cars. They have some nice stuff in their warehouse.

Someone in Arizona screwed something up when they titled it and that's how it came out to be a 2010. I told the dealer it would be a problem and he'd need to get it re-registered before I would buy it.

It's a super nice truck. I would say it's the original 3.5V8 with an Edelbrock carb. It's the only LandroversUK truck I've ever seen and I think it's very well done. Much better than the stories I've heard. It drove great. Frame looks perfect for original. It has a ribbed roof which you can't really see due to the roof rack. Puma doors. The wheels are awesome IMO and expensive.

It's a legit truck if anyone wants it.

I like it. But for that money, I would expect a galvanized chassis (which it may have, sorry if I missed that) and a fuel injected engine. My '85 Ninety had the 3.5 V8 when I bought it, and I hate to think how anaemic it would be in a 110, especially with air con.

It does NOT have a galvanized chassis. But I climbed all up under it with a hammer. The chassis looks almost new. It must have been a well kept 110 in it's former life.

What is the asking price on this truck?
