IMO.... If you are not a mechanical person, you are just setting yourself up for a lot of problems with really unhappy people when an engine is found to be bad. With all of the costs involved in removing, crating and shipping, you really want to know it will be a good engine beforehand.
I would expect compression and leakdown tests and even better seeing it run.
