I lived in Hackettstown, NJ for a while (about 20 mins from Diablo) and miss the all the riding up there...we have good riding down here in VA but you have to drive a ways to get to it!

The HS is definitely a sweet system but I'm sure you've read some of the downers about it too. The biggest issue I ran in to is that you need to face the ISCG tabs which is not an easy task because no one in the DC area has the tool to do it. I am also not a huge fan of the cable routing but the setup is super easy and I highly recommend using an XO shifter.

The pic is what happens when you don't face the tabs!

I've heard Diablo is fantastic, but I haven't made it there yet. Speaking of Stewart, there is an event there I believe June 5th where you pay $20 & you get a shirt, do a 3 hour ride or so, then food and drinks are complimentary (burgers, beers etc). That sounds like fun & I am going to try to hit it!

That Intense is nice. Good deal @ $1800. I think the SOCOM frames alone are close to that figure. Great build spec too. You'll have some fun on that rig. Post up some ride shots when you can.

I want to hit those jumps lines but following John and Miller and attempting the wall rides has me scured.

Lane, sorry been away for a few days but your Intense looks like a pretty sweet deal. Only recommendation would be to swap out that XTR for something in a super short (don't think they make XTR in ss anymore) before you catch it on something...highly recommend the SRAM X0 but that would mean a shifter change too.

------ Follow up post added May 17th, 2010 03:43 PM ------

Also, let me know how you like the Dorado cause I've never ridden one before

Thats fine i want to change the shifter anyways, its the old style and im nto a fan, I like my x9...

Question as im new to downhill bikes. Its a single front gear with a raceface chain guide, what would i need to do to add a second ring on front for times when i need to climb?

Thanks

For starters, you can't run the RF chain guide you have. There are some dual ring chain guides but typically you will inevitably drop your chain at some point unless it is setup perfectly. You also need to check your cranks. If I remember correctly those cranks are DH specific meaning they are only set up for the big ring (104 BCD) and cannot mount a second smaller ring. Also not sure if the Socom is meant to have a front derailleur or not. You could always use an E-type if you want a derailleur or drop a little cash and get the best of both worlds...Truvativ Hammerschmidt! If you haven't checked it out before, it's worth a look. Not cheap though, you will drop about $400-500 for the HS and another $50-100 for the shifter. If you want/need a set of cranks that will work for a double ring setup but still be DH worthy, I am selling two sets of Truvativ Holzfeller OCT 2.2 RG cranks (one 170mm, one 175mm). These cranks are among the lightest DH quality cranks you will find but are super strong. You would have to change to a Truvativ Howitzer bottom bracket though (typically less than $50).

Once you get the rig I can help you more with closer/more detailed photos and we can chat about your overall goals for it. Do you know how much it weighs?

I already got the bike, I bought it from a fella that was local.. One of my buddies builds bikes, hes gonna look at my set up to see how i can add a second gear. Your set up your selling does look sweet though....

the guy i bought it form said it weighed 38 ish...

So far i'm loving the dorado, but its been all street riding and curb jumping for now.

Cool on the Dorado. I rode a White Bros fork years ago that was inverted like the Dorado and loved it but the rocks were hell on the stanchions. Didn't have the guards like the Dorado though.

Just get this and you will be all set for any riding needs! It will give you a 38/24 or 36/22 combination plus a chain guide all in one package!

Let me know if you need any more help and post some ride pics once you get out on the trails!

I hear ya on that...I would recommend setting up a saved search on eBay. I picked up my HS for $350 including the bottom bracket and an XO shifter (all brand new)

good luck!
