2002 Defender legally imported?

I wonder how this made it in?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Land-Rover-D...US_Cars_Trucks

I know it says it's for off road use, but from what I've read on this website, even that shouldn't fly.

Who knows? There are many ways to bring in trucks, many borders over which they can cross.

Only 53 miles on a 2002? I guess no-one knows what to do with it.

Reading is fundamental gentlemen. It was imported as parts and re-assembled (the man says it right in his ad) hence no title. The engine was not legal to import so someone lied on the paperwork, but he's willing to hand you that when you buy it.

What this guy is saying is it isn't titled, he's not going to try, but it can be done. It will never be legal @ the federal level and this is exactly why epa and dot are all over US Customs about parts imports.

The off road only caveat only works for vehicles that were never built to be used on road by the manufacturer, so this was not imported as an off road only exemption.

I did read that it was imported as parts. I've been told that if it appears you have all the parts to reassemble it into a vehicle it won't make it in. That's the part that was vexing.

Sam you have been told correctly. I'd bet this wasn't done anytime in the past couple of years. My guess is this 12 yr old truck entered quite some time ago- well before Custom's crack down on defenders. It probably took someone quite some time to get it back together and running.

Ads like this will surely create some government interest.

Yeah I got kind of twisted when I read the damn ebay listing. I/we don't need any more heat.
