There are a bunch of newer trucks in CA that are registered as exactly what they are. No clue how but if you are looking it is nice that you don't have to deal with registering it. I saw the ebay ad. Nice enough truck, sucks it isn't slightly newer as it would have the td5 dash and the newer style doors.

I think the paint was fair - it was really dirty as he said he could not fit it in his garage and has been out side for some amount of time. the outside matched under the seat floors but other then that I was not wowwed

Did they really paint the rear door handle? Too lazy to mask it or remove it?

I am looking at the pipe above the heat shield. Also the hole cut in the engine cover is interesting as well.

The VIN does check out as a 1999 TD5 LHD 110

How was this registered? and if so why isn't he cleaning it up and asking ridiculous $?

no he didnt make me a deal on the spot - not that I would have pulled out a huge envelope of cash -

He claimed he went to the dmv and registered it no problem - seemed like a regular guy with no special tricks up his sleeve - I really went to pick his brain more then anything else

the pipe seemed to be wrapped around a hose?

Looks like it's coming from the top of the a/c compressor, maybe the suction side from the evaporator to the compressor? I haven't even seen a TD5 to know where the a/c comp is, but following the hose, it looks like a/c type valves up there.

I am thinking that pipe has something to do with the bio conversion.

The injectors on the TD5 from what I understand have way too much pressure to be running on bio diesel. I have not seen another TD5 with that pipe on it.

The compressor is on the Driver Side (on a LHD) they run from the compressor towards the front (near radiator) and then back towards the heater box....

the TD5 I have seen does not have that pipe or the hole cut in the sound cover. I also know that LR does not recommend biodiesel in a TD5...

Some states will issue title/registration straight from foreign registration documents like a V5. It's also not too difficult to get a bonded title in most states if you have the original VIN. After that transferring from state to state probably isn't hard. Doesn't necessarily mean it's legally imported though...

Well there is still the factor of how desirable is the truck. Not sure how the paint looks in person but as Keith pointed out it looks maaco. Then there is the fact that for a td5 you are not getting the desirable dash or better doors. Finally bio diesel can destroy an engine if it isn't set up for it so they can all be factors in it not going for a zillion dollars. I do agree it should be cleaned professionally and some glamour shots should be taken with horsey naked on the hood to get full price.

Barry,

Biodiesel will not destroy any engine. This is a false assumption by people who know nothing about running bio diesel. For most new engines no conversion is needed. Bio works fine in a TD5 which you can read more about here: http://www.biofuelsforum.com/using_b...rover_td5.html

Yours sincerely,

The Biodiesel Police

Def a Maaco paint job. I saw this 110 in person at The British Garage in San Diego back in 2008. Used it quite a bit for reference on my 110 build. It sat there for a few months. Two guys bought it from a lady in LA with the intention of starting a business doing Bio conversions. They bought a Td5 Bio conversion kit from Germany but never installed it. They couldn't make the business happen and sold the truck a few months later. The truck arrived in SD with the crappy paint job. They painted over everything, even the Td5 stickers. That hose everyone is asking about is from an A/C system I have never seen before. It had some DOT plates that replaced the original VIN plate, stating it was a legally imported vehicle.
