1995 Beluga Black D90 ST - 82k miles $29k

This truck just hit Craigslist the other day, but I saw it a few weeks ago when it was parked near my apartment. I couldn't see much that was rotting, but at the same time I only saw it as the sun was going down, so it was hard to see anything frame-related. There were beach tags on it, and it has lived out on LI for a few years, and you can see that the fuel tank cradle was replaced with something non-OEM. Before that, it was in TN, and another forum member here was friends with the seller (threads linked below). It apparently has a red dash and some other spots painted red - I have no idea why this was done, but apparently it was cool at the time and was supposed to give it some racing-esque cred...sort of like the red brake calipers on Porsches and other cars.

The owner told me that it has 82,183 miles, beluga black, has A/C, rear bench, full cage, etc. Has owned it for 6 years, and is "big fun", and one previous owner. His name is Gary.

It's plaque number 2133 - VIN SALDV2289SA957749

Here are old threads on it:

Well, it looks like Great Neck Car Buyers now has it up for sale for $38,995 with this little caveat "ADVERTISED PRICE AFTER NINE HUNDRED NINETY FIVE DOWN." So I guess the real price they're asking is $38,995 + $995 = $39,990

I can finally see the few remaining signs of the red dash it apparently used to have.

Yeah, it looks like they removed the Long Island beach access tags and stickers from around the truck, so the $10k must account for all of that labor.

some poor newbie will buy this, then spend his time on this board lamenting over the fact that it is causing him no end of problems! Hopefully he will google search the vin or other numbers BEFORE he/she buys

Nice. Now also on eBay with a totally awesome new description. Not sure he's pulling out the correct numbers to really show how "rare" this vehicle really is.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2dr-C...t_17471wt_1167

This is a highly sought after vehicle. If there was any Land Rover everyone wishes they made more of it would be the Defender 90. The fact remains that they only made a limited amount of these units. It has been said that there were only 27000 of these made in 1995. That was 27000 to supply the whole world. With that said I don't think rare is a big enough word to explain how hard it is to find one of these trucks for sale. These trucks are well built. Please look closely at the pictures to see the condition of the truck. Feel free to ask any and all questions. For the many who will look few will have the rare opportunity to buy. If you have the funding to purchase this SUV and you were in the market for a Land Rover Defender 90 don't let this one pass you buy. With 82,267 k miles its safe to say this Defender 90 has a lot of road left in its travels. Be the highest bidder and take those travels in this hard to find Land Rover. We are offering this Defender 90 at a reasonable price. The engine on this vehicle is running properly. This vehicle has no known defects. The mileage represented on this vehicle is accurate. This vehicle has a smooth shifting transmission. All power equipment is functioning properly. The overall condition of this vehicle's exterior is average. There is an average amount of wear on the interior. There is approximately 75% of the tire tread remaining.

Also spray painted the entire chassis and "fuel cradle" (if you can even call that basket weave a fuel cradle) black with quite a bit of overspray everywhere.

I agree that thermostat or rad are likely why it over heated in the first place ... given that the seller taking the photo clearly has no qualms about letting it run so hot ... i'd suspect it's been doing it for a while and the gaskets are probably shot.
