1991 Classic Hunter Edition Not mine but

Someone has to get this one. O.k. so it is a 1991 3.9 Classic Hunter edition in portofino red. I had to go look at it... can't but it as wife would go bananas. I think the gentlemen selling it is the second owner. It comes with the original owners manual and the dog gate for the Hunter Edition. It has manual seats, no ABS, no air springs and front vented disk like a Hunter Edition should have. It does come with an optional sunroof. I asked if it would start and he said the battery is probably low so he jumped it and the 3.9 came to life with little effort and the temp guage never came close to the middle.
Now for the good:
It is a limited edition 1 of 400 or so Hunter Edition Classics which were entry level classics that year from what I read about them. They came with manual seats, no abs crap, no air springs, so non of that crap to worry about.
Engine sounds great
Little to no rust
Lights, air conditioning, radio, turn signals, horn wipers, brakes all seem to work fine. Not sure about the back wiper though.
Asking price is $1,000 for the vehicle and I believe it has a clean but non-operating title. Windows all work and the little shocks on the tailgate hold it up fine.

Now for the bad:
Mystery-tranny won't shift
Cracked windshield
Could use a good interior cleaning but overall interior seem pretty good and it was cloth not leather
Headliner fabric needs to be put on the headliner
sunroof opens but doesn't completely close.
Engine could use a nice cleaning as lots of old crud on it.
Shocks and springs or maybe just shocks are shot.
Didn't pass smog in CA.
Need a passenger's side door latch.
Cassette player doesn't work but he does have the original CD player that came with it.

I did not test drive it due to the tranny issue. I did shift it into drive with my foot on the brake and the tranny engaged. I also shifted the T case into high and low.

I fell a bit in love with the simplistic nature of this car, it seems that there is not a lot that can go wrong with it. I will make no warranty on it from my post and if you need Tom's email just shoot me a PM.

A grand is awfully generous for a non runner. I'd offer 500 and they should be happy to get that much for it. Book on this thing is $221 via Edmunds.com, and that assumes it runs.

I am sure he is willing to work with someone on the price. He has had offers to part it out and has no interest in pulling it apart or even turning a wrench on it.

Classics are are getting few and far between and Hunters should be considered collectable. Red is a rare color for them too..

Dave,
Make a road trip . Premier Rover will pick it up and tow it over to check out the tranny.
