1990 RRC 300tdi on BaT

Want, but not at that price....

http://bringatrailer.com/2014/11/19/...nge-rover-swb/

This 1990 Range Rover SWB runs a 300TDi/5-speed conversion tuned to run on conventional or biodiesel. Though short on outright grunt compared to the standard, Buick-based V8 this US spec truck would have been issued from new, these four cylinder oil burners are more economical, and with about 200 lb. ft. on offer from low revs are still adequately torquey as well. Ignoring the swap altogether though, it looks perfectly gnarly sitting high over blocky shouldered Nokian tires and black steelies, and with those small bumpers departure angles must be something else. Find it here at Splendid Automobiles in New Westminster, BC, Canada for $24,900.

A looks alright, but a $5-10k 300tdi conversion doesn't quite justify the $20k+ premium they're asking on this one.

How many extra thousand to put the bumper end caps and the air dam back on? Steel wheels? Come on.
After the conversion, it is still a $4-5000 truck all in.

Haters.

If that's a 25K Classic, I'll just keep driving around in my $19,900 LWB Tdi.

25k for a classic with 250k ? Personally I don't get the unfinished look inside from moving the spare or how it ruins the exterior appearance

I didn't actually see that particular truck. It was probably out back, but he had a few other converted RRC's he was working on in the shop. One of them was pretty cool (that he's gonna keep for himself), it was green and had cloth seats and roll-up windows. He had a couple Disco II's too that he was trying to decide which one to convert. Lots and lots of parts. I guess he gets regular shipments from the UK all the time. He told me to let him know if I need anything shipped over. He said most of the time DHL gets there in 24 hours. He's pretty close to the port.

That sounds cool--was it a Hunter model or an older 2 door?

I think there were some bad stories circulating about this guy--but you've met him personally so that's more than I can claim.
I've only emailed with him.

I can't see it selling up here. You can barely give away TDI Discos or RRCs. There is a 200TDI Disco for sale locally, asking $6500 and he can't sell it despite being a nice truck.

It was a 4 door. I don't recall what the color is called. It was a dark green. He said he was kinda rare.

I've heard that too. Also, I won't personally have anything to do with engines that may have EPA/emissions issues. He said he has a guy who does the electronics for the Disco swaps. Portland has emissions testing so I'm not sure how one would deal that, but I didn't ask. The Defenders he brings over appear to be all original though from what I've seen. I think everything's in order there, but again I won't get involved in that. He has some cool other rigs too besides Landies. He said he has a Citroen coming in soon. I think it's a family operation. He had his cute little daughter in the office with him.
