1989 Land Rover 110 TD, LHD, only 3,600 miles

I put this in the flea market because I don't know exactly, how or where I am going to sell it.

In my search for 110's I came across this almost NEW 110 in Switserland. I bought it direct from the local fire department and it has been in active service until early this month. The last years I have had some more low mileage and almost new Defenders, this is one is my record though and I cannot image finding anything better. Really only 3,600 miles and every single miles (ok, kilometer) is documented.

When I received the car I was pleasantly surprised all the fire brigade equipment was still in there. Not only the sirens and the lights, but also the SW radio's, flashlights, chains, storage boxes and even a Honda generator. The car has been equipped with trailer air brakes. In Europe this is quite common, I think even mandatory, for trailers above appr. 7000 pound.

This car is never restored and almost new. All bolts and nuts do have the glossy look even on under carriage. There is just no rust, nowhere. Normally I make a "bad" list but for this one it is just one item, the headliner is sagging a little.

Wondering what to do with it ? different options:
1. My guts say, keep it like it is. This so unique, you can never get that back
2. Another option is to bring it back to factory spec and color. Originally this one was green, give it that color back, remove all the equipment and this is an almost factory new 110 from 1989. ! This option is tempting too because not everybody wants to drive a fire truck.
3. This also can be a perfect candidate for one of those glossy Defenders which seems to be so popular now. Give it a black metallic coat, tinted windows, bling-bling wheels and a custom leather interior. ......not my preference though.

At this moment the car is still in Europe and I have the timing belt replaced by a Land Rover specialist. Not because of milage but because I think after 26 years this is not a bad idea.

I haven't set a for sale price yet, also depending on what I am going to do with it. I hope people understand that in any case, this is not a cheap car. Also in Europe Defenders in good condition are getting rare, expensive and only rising in value. People interested can PM me and we can discuss.

Geez nice example. Next time you find one of these and have no idea what you're going to do with it, let us know BEFORE you buy it, and we could figure it out for you.

Back to original color and spec is my vote. Then keep and not sell.

Those are interesting indeed. I don't think they are mud flaps though.
I'm curious as well.

I love that color. Don't shoot me for saying this, but the newer wranglers in that color look really good imo. Keep it that color, take off all the emergency gear.

Take off front stuff and lights. Leave the generator in it and give it to me

Ok. Sell it to me if you must.

O yea I like that color too. Don't care what others say. If it's clean and all one color looks good.

I am sure they can work like mud flaps...

They can be extended sideways, about 1,5 ft both directions. My own guess is that it was used to pull a wide trailer

This is so nice. My vote is to leave it as is. I would love to drive it around as is (probably have to disable the blue lights to satisfy inspection).

ok, I think I made my plan...
THe car was loaded today and is on its way to Michigan.
Had the generator taken out, it is 220V and 50 Hz, so nobody could use it here.

Found a nice set of NTO Boost wheels including spacers. Also a complete, NTO, interior of a Puma, leather !

When here in MI, I will take out the rest of the fire truck equipment, lights, radio's and so. Keep the red color and bring it back to a normal station wagon. I think the Boost wheels will look good and maybe I will also install the Puma interior. Still doubting if I should order an AC system for this one.

Car arrived in Michigan. Did some little work on it. New Boost wheels with new tires, removed the generator, removed the blue and orange lights. Will work on the interior this weekend, then it is time to put it up for sale.

???? Of course I could have used it! I could use my crepe maker, the crep'party or the steam iron with it (assuming it puts out a good amount of power).
But I give you that I would not be able to afford the truck that came with it!
