1987 Camel Trophy

This was on eBay a while back with a starting bid of $54,999 and didn't sell. I think it's been up a few times in the past few years. I recall the part about it being a medical support or doctor vehicle.

You are looking at a Genuine 1987 Camel Trophy Land Rover Defender 110 ,the vehicle has been completely gone through in our workshop . it has a 200TDI diesel engine that was installed brand new 8,500 miles ago ,all the mechanicals with exception of the transmission have either been replaced brand new or have been rebuilt .It has six new BF Goodrich mud terrain KM2 tires .The Camel Trophy vehicles were all built for serious off road use ,so there are no sway bars fitted so as to allow the axles to fully articulate ,this is not a vehicle for every day comuting but it is a true piece of automitive history .Please feel free to ask any reasonable questions only if you are interested in purchasing this vehicle .
listed as a 1900 year truck because ebay will not recognize grey market vin.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It looks like some things have changed since the last time it was listed...most notably the year...from 1991 to 1987. I also read somewhere that it had said "not street legal" in one of the ads, but was changed to "This vehicle is part of motoring history & built for mostly off road events , this is not a vehicle for daily freeway driving." Seems odd
You are looking at an original 1991 factory built Camel Trophy Land Rover Defender 110 . It was used as the Doctors vehicle in the Tanzania - Burundi Camel Trophy event of 1991 ,It has had all the mechanics either replaced brand new or Rebuilt .
The 200TDI engine was rebuilt using a brand New engine short block ,the cylinder head was rebuilt as was the turbo charger + fuel injection pump + injectors ,The fuel pump was new + so were the alternator / water pump / intercooler + hoses / radiator / the clutch /all coolant hoses , etc . The front axle + swivel hubs + brake calipers + steering box were rebuilt , all the tie rod & track rod ends were also replaced new , the transfer case was rebuilt ( it leaked ), we fitted all stainless steel braided brake hoses , the rear axle was replaced with a brand new unit with disc brakes , we also fitted an Equipe gas tank guard , the vehicle has been driven 8,500 miles mostly off road since the rebuild . The body was taken apart & repainted & all decals were replaced , the interior is TOTALLY ORIGINAL except for a Lowrance navigation unit , it has six brand new B.F. Goodrich KM2 mud terrain tires + six Michelin XCL tires that are almost new , it has a Haniball roof tent + quite a bit of memorabilia that comes with the vehicle . This vehicle is part of motoring history & built for mostly off road events , this is not a vehicle for daily freeway driving .
PLEASE only bid on this vehicle if you intend to buy it .
If you are the winning bidder payment is required it within one week of the finish of the auction .
If you have less than five feedbacks contact me befor bidding or you bid will be cancelled.
I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime as it is for sale locally.
We are 5 mins from LAX .
In my opinion if there is any question about its true identity with the 1987 vs 1991, its value as a collector or original CT goes way down. Some trucks need to be kept original, and so does their documentation.
I believe this truck is owned by the owner of British car service in Inglewood ca.
If this is the one, I caught a few glimpses of it in the shop and it looked to be in good shape and well cared for.
It's interesting to learn about the sudden change in year.
The 200tdi was introduced on Defenders in 1990 I think. Which has me confused as to the true year.
Wondering if the car dealer that had it maintained it in inventory rather than formally assuming title.
Assuming CBP etc monitor this board, please don't risk an important part of LR history if it really isn't 25 years old.
Am I the only one that finds this odd?
Get a British Heritage Document... Should reveal if it was a Camel Trophy Truck or not... At least mine did.
So it's a gray market '91, only things original are the compass, rear upper storage boxes, and rear mounted fans. Can't be titled/driven legally on the road until 2016. Sounds fun...
