1985 D110 for sale by dealer not me

Here is the link to a 1985 D110 recently restored in 2012 according to the add. I've given up hope on being able to afford it so i thought i would share with the community but if someone is willing to gift it to me i'd be delighted with you.

It's a diesel not sure which engine type though. Also has AC, stereo, sunroof

looks to be a pretty clean truck besides for some bulkhead repairs on the driver side. It also looks like the brake and turn signal lights were changed out for clear lights or clear lenses.

Also curious to see what people think of this truck to see how my inspection skills are.

Truck is in Michigan

Nothing special. Don't sweat it. It's also not legal so resale, if necessary, might be disappointing.

Spoiler alert! 200 and 300 tdi engines are not approved for road use in the United States.

that's not stopping people from importing them (stand alone), installing and then selling trucks with them in 'em.

Just sayin'

Very true. Just wouldn't want to be the guy they decide to make an example out of if caught with a 200/300 motor.

True, but I'm assuming the guy is new to these trucks based in his questioning so I just thought it might be helpful to let him know there's nothing special about it and it is illegal.

Just because someone imported it and then after import put a 200/300tdi in it doesn't make it legal.

Nice truck though.

I would not be worried about the engine, but I am pretty sure the vin in NOT factory stamped, glass dates are not pre 1988 and it will be probably have a disk brake rear axle.

Actually, I looked into this in excruciating detail before buying my truck a couple of weeks ago and turns out the EPA engine standards are different than the vehicle standards in terms of age for import exception. For a car, as we all know, it's 25 years. For an engine, however, it's 21 years. So theoretically, if this truck had a 200TDi manufactured before 1993 the engine could have been legally imported and legally installed on an 1988-89 or earlier truck.
Not saying that's the case here, just saying it could happen.

search for the whats legal thread ... this stuff has been discussed ad nauseum.

Get the VIN number and decode it and see what matches up ....
