We sell 1983, 25 yr old defenders that you could rebuild into vehicles like this and have no insurance issues.

What do you mean by series components? I have got a 1966 109 with a rusted frame i was going to drop on to a nas 110 rolling chassis. i prefer a more modern coil spring set up but I also prefer the look of the old series with the lights mounted on the grill but at what point am I "liable"? If i put a defender front end on it? power steering? defender badges? Im trying to understand where the line on this is.

I think that the line is that the truck on CL is no where near a Series truck. The only thing that is Series on it is the Vin Tag. That truck is out and out fraud. If you were to put a new frame under your truck with a few improvements and keep the same body and components, you would be fine.

Well its all in the interpretation of the saftey office should an incident happen, here in the UK a vehicle has to retain 60% of the original vehicle. If you are using a nas 110 coil chassis make sure you remove all chassis numbers, i think this was the problem before, or part of it. i'm not saying don't do it, I am saying make sure you read any relevent info before changing a vehicle too much. EG: a series 2a 109 with a coil chassis (designa chassis in the UK makes a series coil chassis conversion) and series body trans etc is still for all purposes a series truck. but when does it become something different - if you replace the tranny, and the body pannels, they could argue that you built a new car (so you'd have to conform to your states kit car regs.)

Got it. thanks for the info. The chassis came from ECR and they ground the numbers off so Im sure it should be ok.

There is quite a small chance of that..... mostly rumors of this happening, in the USA anyway. I think it depends heavily on the insurance company involved and the particular situation. It's not the same as the UK.
