$130k original purchase price? And another $25k in additions - yikes... and they used Jeep Wrangler flares...

I wonder what the reserve is

so this is here on a carnet and was not imported. Its a 96 and they probably can get a title for it in Florida but there won't be any import docs....
Just saying

??? I'm not going to touch it with a pole. Its a 96 thats in the country on a tourist Carnet and is supposed to leave again. What the seller says in their ad is that they will provide it to the high bidder with a US title. Titling a truck and importing it are independent and you can often title a truck in certain states with no import paperwork. Doesn't make it legal with dot/customs/epa. Insurance would be easy I'm sure, insurance companies don't ask for copies of import documents, thats irrelevant to them.

Based on the reg. number it does have an export marker on file with DVLA which is for permanent export. That does not change any of the valid points you bring up though. just curious how these people do not get caught as the carnet would be attached to the owners/importers passport correct?

That's what I thought, but State Farm requested copies of my import docs before agreeing to insure my grey market 110. I don't know what they would've told me if I was unable to produce them.

DMV here in CO also insisted on production of the import documents before issuing a title. It would be interesting to know if they wanted them for a vehicle already titled in another state. I wouldn't think so, but......

In WA, the DMV required that the import docs be surrendered to the state prior to a title being issued. Glad I made copies prior.

This is the norm in most states. Montana will title your shirt tail as will Florida and Alabama. Several New England states used to not even title vehicles over 20yrs old so there are chinks in the armor so to speak.

FWIW I have 4 imported vehicles here and I have had grey market cars since the 80's and never had any of my insurer's ask for any documentation beyond a copy of the title.

This really pissed me off about CT DMV, they refused to issue me a title to my Series despite the fact that i handed them a title from NYS, they told me my registration serves as my title considering it was older than 1980.

I have the same situation with my series having the previous title from NY. Not a big deal really since I did not have to give up the NY title so the paper trail is all there should I ever sell. I must admit though more times than not this policy has worked to my advantage with the older vehicles.

So the weird thing here is NY does not issue titles on vehicles older than 1975. My Series is on the registration as transferable (ie no title) in NY.
