110 LHD ebay - import question

3 door 110 LHD white. Listing says year 1988, CalVIN says its a 1992, making it not legal import? Truck in California. Am I missing something? Did I do this right? Not my vehicle.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/331346286071...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

VIN: SALLDHAF8JA906635

CalVIN: http://www.clifton.nl/index.html?calvin.html

Thanks

It's already pulling in some big bucks for a ROW 110!

So how does one confirm claim of LRNA direct import? Is there a EPA/DOT label on the door?
Thanks

there was no LRNA in 1988. LRNA wasn't formed until late 92. Prior to that date there was Range Rover N.America.
There is no way the listing is correct since the 200 tdi defender wasn't around in 88. LRNA likely did what RN does and imported it for marketing purposes and it was supposed to leave again and didn't since that engine was never US certified.

Would this make it analogous to a Camel Trophy vehicle still in the states? Are these eligible to be road legal at the 25 yr mark?

I didn't see anywhere in the add any documentation mentioned to support that statement.

Only the maintenance documentation.

No way to know what the deal is without seeing the documentation the seller has. I'd buy it and drive it if I wanted it but that wasn't the questions asked.

Either way, according to seller title says its a 1988, and the VIN indicates 1992, not so sure thats a good thing, unless Im overlooking something with CalVIN website - i.e. maybe its not accurate or something else I can't think of. Thanks

given the engine I'd believe Calvin which makes everything else the seller says somewhat suspect.

Dan,

CalVIN is not 100% accurate, it's just a VIN "decoder" that uses a Data Base to give you the information.

Also...

This VIN check shows as a 1992

http://www.landroverseries.org/land-rover-vins.htm

But on this one, it's a 1988

http://vindecoder.eu/land-rover

If you want to know the exact build date, use the Heritage Motor Centre and for 6.00 ($12) they'll send you an email with this information.

It is a 1992, and was owned by LRNA and kept at the LRU Training Center in Lanham, Md. for military training. When the former LRNA employee took possesion of it, he went to title it in Maine , where he has an address. The state of Maine insisted it is a 1988 asccording to the vin, so he just went along with it. How do I know this? Right from the horses mouth..back in the day.

Well that explains that discrepancy. Can't argue with Maine.
